Conditions of Financial Aid Awards

- maintaining satisfactory academic progress as a degree candidate according to the University’s policy as stated in the University catalog;
- maintaining an academic workload sufficient to qualify as at least a half-time student during the academic year in which the aid is received;
- being a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; and
- not owing any repayment on a Federal PELL, Federal SEOG or state grant previously received, or not being in default on any Federal NDSL/FFEL previously made while attending any institution.
- Original awards are based on the following enrollment status:
All Undergraduate students = Full-time (12 credits) per semester
All Graduate students = Half-time (6 credits) per semester
Note: Enrollment status changes will result in adjustments of Federal PELL Grants and possibly cause adjustments to loans and other aid programs.
- No payments may be disbursed under the Federal Work-study program unless the student has been given written acceptance of employment under the program. The Federal Work-study Program is an opportunity for employment and not a guarantee that awarded funds will be earned. As such, it cannot be used as credit toward institutional charges.
- Aid received from outside sources must be reported to the Financial Student Service Office. This may require an adjustment in either the total amount or kind of aid provided by the University.
- Any change in the student’s financial situation during the academic year must be reported to the Financial Student Service Office as soon as that change occurs.
- Certification programs do not qualify as eligible programs for student receipt of financial aid.
- The student is ultimately responsible for his/her bill regardless of financial aid.
- The student understands that withdrawal from all courses before completion of the entire semester or academic year may result in an adjustment of the award based on the U.S. Department of Education’s return of Federal funds policy.
- The student understands that, if he/she receives financial aid funds and withdraws unofficially from classes (without formal written notice to instructors, the Wilmington University Registrar’s Office, the Financial Student Services, he/she will be liable for payment of any charges created on his/her account which come as a result of the mandatory refund of Federal financial aid to the appropriate fund sources.
- If you are a recipient of a Federal loan and expect to receive a refund from the loan proceeds, you must be advised that refunds may not be available to you until the published dates on the University’s refund schedule.
- If your award includes one or more federal student loans, you must maintain a total of 6 credits of enrollment each semester of attendance in order to receive the loan funds. A change in enrollment could result in your loan funds being returned to your lender. Please notify the financial aid office in writing if you wish to reduce the amount of or decline your loan(s).
