11/16/2007 – WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY TIP-OFF CLASSICPENN STATE - ABINGTON
WILMINGTON MEN ROLL PAST PENN STATE-ABINGTON IN SEASON OPENER
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University opened the 2007-2008 men’s basketball season with a convincing 71-48 victory over the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State University &endash; Abington in the Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening at Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead during the first two minutes, but the Nittany Lions rallied and got to within in three (9-6) five and a half minutes in. That would be as close as Penn State-Abington would get, as the ‘Cats responded with a 15-4 run over the next seven minutes to increase their lead. Wilmington had the hot hand in the first half, shooting almost 53 percent from the floor, and entered halftime with a 43-18 lead.
The Nittany Lions responded with a much better second half, outscoring the hosts 30-28. The lead was just too much to overcome, and the visitors never got closer than 18 points (60-42) with 7:12 remaining.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Mike Shipman, who posted a solid all-around game with a team-high 13 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Junior forward Antonio Sherrod and sophomore center Allen Hairston each added 11 points and six rebounds, while junior guard Kevin Cooper chipped in with 10 points and six boards. Senior center Justin Tomlinson notched five blocks in just 12 minutes of play for Wilmington.
Penn State-Abington was led by Tyrone Young, who scored a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Jamal Oliver added 14 points and pulled down nine boards for the visitors.
Wilmington shot just over 43 percent from the floor for the game, while holding the Nittany Lions to just 28 percent shooting, including zero percent from three point range (0-for-19). Both teams recorded 44 rebounds, but the Wildcats bench outscored Penn State’s by a 21-0 margin.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 1-0 on the young season, while Penn State-Abington dropped to 0-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they close out play in their Tip-Off Classic against Bloomsburg University at 4:00 PM.
In the first game of the tournament, Goldey-Beacom (1-0) defeated Bloomsburg University (0-1) by a 77-72 margin in each team’s season opener. The Huskies held a 33-29 lead at the half, but the Lightning came on strong in the second half and held on for the five point victory.
Goldey-Beacom was paced by Samuel McDuffie, who notched 21 points and nine rebounds. Adrian Miles added 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Steven Cooper also recorded 17 points. Derek Savage chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals for the Lightning.
Bloomsburg was led by Nick Jones, who posted 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Niko Traykov added 16 points, while Buddy Rose chipped in with 14 points and five boards.
Goldey-Beacom returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Nittany Lions of Penn-State Abington in the opening game of day two at the Wilmington University Tip-Off Classic.

WILDCATS COME UP SHORT, FALL TO BLOOMSBURG 56-50
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University came up just short and fell to the visiting Huskies of Bloomsburg University in the final game of the men’s basketball Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon at Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington jumped out to an early lead, and led by as many as four (15-11) midway through the first half. The Huskies responded with a 15-4 run to close the half, and entered intermission holding a 26-19 lead. The Wildcats begun chipping away the deficit little by little to start the second half, and eventually went on a 7-0 run to come within one (34-35) at the ten minute mark. Wilmington took their first lead of the period when senior swingman Taurean Temple hit a jumper with 2:38 remaining to put the ‘Cats up by one (44-43). That would be the last lead of the game for the hosts, as Bloomsburg finished the game knocking down six free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Mike Shipman, who recorded 12 points, seven assists, and seven steals. Temple added 13 points and eight rebounds, while junior forward Antonio Sherrod chipped in with 12 points and eight boards. Sophomore center Allen Hairston rounded out the ‘Cats in double figures with 10 points.
Bloomsburg was paced by Nick Jones, who notched 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Adon El added 10 points and eight boards, while Niko Traykov had 10 points and six rebounds. Buddy Rose chipped in with nine points and six rebounds for the Huskies.
Wilmington was out-rebounded by Bloomsburg by a 37-39 margin, and the Huskies held the Wildcats to 36.5 percent shooting from the floor, including a dismal 1-for-16 behind the arc (6.3%). Bloomsburg shot over 47 percent from the floor and converted 14-of-16 free throw opportunities, compared to just 3-of-8 for Wilmington. The Huskies’ bench outscored the home team 20-2, while the Wildcats were able to notch 25 points off 28 turnovers by the visitors.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 1-1 on the season while Bloomsburg improved to 1-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the Golden Bears of Kutztown University in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 PM.
In the opening game of the day, Goldey-Beacom College just squeaked by Penn State-Abington, 64-61. The two teams had a see-saw battle going for much of the game, with the Nittany Lions (0-2) holding a slim lead down the stretch. The Lightning (2-0) pulled away late, but Penn State had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but their three-point attempt came up short and Goldey-Beacom escaped with the three point victory.
The Lightning was led by Derek Savage, who notched 21 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, five blocks, and five steals in a solid all-around performance. Samuel McDuffie added 17 points and four rebounds, while Azeez Ellegood picked up 12 points for Goldey-Beacom.
Penn State-Abington was paced by Jamal Oliver’s 25 points and 11 boards. Tyrone Young added 18 points and three steals, while Scott Brandt chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Nittany Lions.
Goldey-Beacom was declared the winner of the Wilmington University Tip-Off Classic by virtue of the 2-0 record. Bloomsburg University and Wilmington finished the tournament with a 1-1 record, while Penn State-Abington went 0-2.

WILMINGTON EDGED BY KUTZTOWN, 77-70

KUTZTOWN, PA -- Stephen Dennis led a group of four double-digit scorers with 18 and the Kutztown University men’s basketball team converted 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to hold off Wilmington University 77-70, Tuesday evening at Keystone Hall.
Leading by 10 with 2:54 left, Kutztown (1-0) allowed Wilmington (1-2) to creep back into the non-conference contest and make it a three-point game at 72-69 with 36 seconds remaining.
Dennis, however, made two free throws to push the lead back out to five and help seal the home-opening win for the Golden Bears.
Andre Woodlin nearly had a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Dave Ben scored 15 points and had seven rebounds. Sean McKeon posted 10 points for the Golden Bears.
Wilmington was led by senior swingman Taurean Temple’s 20 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Mike Shipman added 14 points, 10 boards, and six assists, while classmate Antonio Sherrod added 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Sophomore center Allen Hairston chipped in with seven points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Golden Bears opened with a 13-1 run to start the game, fueled by a technical foul on Wilmington and poor shot selections. Wilmington made just 29.5 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, while KU made 55.2 percent en route to a 38-32 halftime lead.
Both teams switched identities in the second half, with Wilmington shooting 43.3 percent and Kutztown just over 28 percent. That allowed Wilmington to ease its way back into the game and eventually threaten to tie the contest, but its 23 turnovers hurt Wilmington in the end.
Kutztown went to the line a total of 30 times, converting on 22 of its free throws, while Wilmington converted 15 of their 23 opportunities. The Wildcats held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Golden Bears by a 55-42 margin.

WILDCATS FALL TO NYIT, 90-79
OLD WESTBURY, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Bear of the New York Institute of Technology, 90-79 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Wilmington trailed by only one at the half, but the Bears pulled away in the second half to come away with the victory.
The Wildcats were led by junior forward Antonio Sherrod and senior Taurean Temple who each posted 19 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Mike Shipman added 16 points, and nine assists. Sophomore guard Blake Rubenstein added 11 points for the Wildcats.
NYIT was paced by Bryant Lassiter’s game-high 35 points and six steals. Andre Wright added 19 points, while Phillip Jones chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Brian McFadden rounded out the Bears in double figures with 10 points.
The Bears shot an astounding 62.3 percent from the floor, compared to 46.6 percent by the Wildcats. NYIT also held an advantage on the glass, out-rebounding Wilmington by a 27-20 margin.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 1-3 on the season, while NYIT improved to 2-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host the Golden Rams of West Chester University in a non-conference game beginning at 8:00 PM.

WILMINGTON DOWNED BY WEST CHESTER, 72-58
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were downed by the visiting Golden Rams of West Chester University, 72-58 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Pratt Center.
The score remained tight for most of the first half, and the visitors entered the break holding a three point lead (30-27). West Chester opened the second stanza with an 11-4 (41-30) run to pull away, and the Wildcats never got within six points as the Golden Rams dominated play down the stretch to seal the victory.
Wilmington was led by senior forward Taurean Temple, who posted 11 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals, while classmate Maurice Furrowh added 13 points. Junior Kevin Cooper chipped in with 10 points, and Mike Shipman notched seven points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists for the Wildcats.
West Chester was led by Kenneth St. George, who had a game-high 22 points. Lenwood Greenwood added 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Kehinde Roberts had 17 points for the Golden Rams.
The visitors shot almost 46 percent from the floor compared to just 29.7 percent from the Wildcats. The Golden Rams connected on 9-of-14 opportunities from the behind the arc and dominated play on the glass, out-rebounding Wilmington by a 51-36 margin.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 1-4 on the season, while West Chester improved to 1-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Rams of Philadelphia University in the historic Palestra arena at 1:00 PM.

‘CATS NIPPED BY PHILDELPHIA, 65-61
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were nipped by the Rams of Philadelphia University, 65-61 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the historic Palestra in Center City.
Wilmington opened the game with a 10-2 run, but the Rams responded with a 12-4 spurt of their own to tie the game at 14 apiece with 12:10 remaining. Philadelphia controlled play for the rest of the half, and entered the break holding an eight point lead.
The Rams continued to hold at least a double-digit lead for the early part of the second half, but Wilmington began to slowly chip away. With 7:10 remaining, the Wildcats began a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to cut lead to just two (59-61). Philadelphia made their final four free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.
Wilmington was led by senior Taurean Temple who posted 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Mike Shipman added 16 points and four steals. Sophomore center Allen Hairston had four points, four boards, and five blocks for the Wildcats.
Philadelphia was led by Russell Frederick who notched a game-high 19 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Malcolm Ingram added 12 points and 10 boards, while Mike Dunn chipped in with 12 points for the Rams.
The Wildcats shot over 41 percent from the floor, compared to 37 percent for Philadelphia, but the Rams connected on 7-of-15 from behind the arc. The hosts also dominated play on the glass, out-rebounding Wilmington by a 45-30 margin.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 0-1 in the CACC and 1-5 overall, while Philadelphia improved to 1-0 in the conference and 2-5 on the season. WILMINGTON ROLLS PAST COLUMBIA UNION, 88-71
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University rolled past the visiting Pioneers of Columbia Union College, 88-71 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Center.
Wilmington jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead during the first three minutes, but the Pioneers rallied and got to within two (9-7) over the next two minutes. That would be as close as Columbia Union would get, as the ‘Cats responded with a 17-4 run over the next five minutes to increase their lead. The Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead much of the first half and entered the break holding a 47-33 advantage.
The Pioneers responded with a much better half, but the lead was too much to overcome, and the visitors never got closer than eleven points (82-71) with 1:10 remaining.
Wilmington was led by senior swingman Taurean Temple, who netted 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a solid all-around effort. Sophomore guard Blake Rubenstein added 14 points, while junior forward Antonio Sherrod had 12 points and seven rebounds. Classmate Kevin Cooper chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds and guard Mike Shipman had seven points and eight boards. Senior guard Maurice Furrowh rounded out the ‘Cats in double figures with 11 points
Columbia Union was paced by Tim Turner who notched a game-high 21 points and six rebounds. Mark Moore added 16 points, while Will Coston chipped in with 11 points and seven boards for the Pioneers.
The Wildcats shot over 49 percent from the floor for the game, while holding the Pioneers to just 33 percent shooting, including 23 percent from behind the arc (7-for-30). Wilmington dominated play on the glass, out-rebounding the visitors by a 57-38 margin. The ‘Cats made the most of their second chance opportunities by recording 21 points off 16 offensive rebounds. The home team also received a solid outing from their bench, as they notched 37 points.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 2-5 on the season while Columbia Union dropped to 0-5 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Golden Falcons of Felician College in a CACC game beginning at 3:00 PM.

WILDCATS CLAW BACK TO DEFEAT FELICIAN, 70-59
NEW CASTLE, DE -- Make it two in a row for the Wildcats of Wilmington University, as they rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Golden Falcons of Felician College, 70-59 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center.
Wilmington stunned the Golden Falcons with a 17-0 run over the last 4:52 to secure their second victory in as many games. With the Wildcats trailing by three with just under five minutes to go, senior swingman Taurean Temple dominated the game down the stretch, netting 11 points. During that last run, the Wildcats held Felician to 0-for-6 shooting and pulled down every rebound.
Felician had the hot hand in the first half, and used that momentum to carry them into the break holding a 32-24 advantage. The Golden Falcons came out early in the second half and stretched that lead to 12 points before Wilmington started chipping away. It wasn’t until a basket by Temple with 2:42 remaining, that the Wildcats were able to tie the game at 59. Wilmington followed by closing out the game on that unbelievable run and pulled away with the conference win.
The Wildcats had three players record double-doubles for the game, and Temple led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds, with 19 of those points coming in the second half. Junior forward Antonio Sherrod notched 22 points and pulled down 13 boards, while classmate Mike Shipman recorded 15 points, 12 boards, six assists, four steals, and three blocks from the point guard position.
The Golden Falcons were led by James Harper who posted 14 points and 12 rebounds. Devon Young added a team-high 17 points, while Nijel Robinson chipped in with eight points. Derrell Thomas had seven points and five assists for Felician.
Wilmington held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding Felician by a 46-44 margin. The Wildcats shot just over 41 percent from the floor during the game, compared to just over 33 percent from the visitors. Neither team shot well from behind the arc, as the ‘Cats connected on 1-of-13 opportunities and Felician nailed just 2-of-18 tries.

WILMINGTON FALLS TO ST. THOMAS AQUINAS, 77-66
SPARKILL, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 77-66 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Aquinas Hall.
The Spartans entered halftime holding a 36-28 advantage, but the Wildcats kept things close for much of the second half. Wilmington got as close as one (61-62) with five minutes remaining, but the hosts closed the game with a 15-5 run to secure the victory.
Wilmington was led by junior forward Antonio Sherrod, who posted a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Senior swingman Taurean Temple added 14 points and six boards, while sophomore center Allen Hairston chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.
St. Thomas Aquinas was led by Akeem Comas, who netted 20 points and five rebounds. Ra Chase added 14 points and nine boards, while Chris Williams had 13 points and Jelani Winfield notched 10 points.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 3-6 on the season while St. Thomas Aquinas improved to 5-3 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Monday evening, when they host the Pioneers of Glenville State University in a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 PM.

WILMINGTON EDGES GLENVILLE STATE, 79-75
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University held off the visiting Pioneers of Glenville State College, 79-75 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Monday evening on the campus of Delaware Technical Community College.
Wilmington held a lead for much of the first half, going up by as much as nine midway through the period. A late run by the Pioneers tied the game at 33 with 4:25 remaining and the two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half. Glenville State entered the break holding a slim 40-38 advantage.
The second half saw much of the same see-saw action, with neither team going ahead by more than seven points. With the game tied at 72, Antonio Sherrod hit a jumper to put the ‘Cats ahead. Senior Taurean Temple nailed a big turnaround jumper with just 49 seconds left that gave Wilmington a three-point lead (76-73). The Wildcats secured the game by making a few key free throws down the stretch, and held off the Pioneers for the four-point victory.

Both teams shot well from the floor, with Wilmington shooting at a 44.4 percent clip, and Glenville connecting on 43.8 percent of their shots. Neither team shot well from the free throw line, as the ‘Cats went just 20-of-32 and the Pioneers converted only 11-of-18 opportunities.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 4-6 on the season while Glenville State dropped to 3-6 overall. The Wildcats return to action after the new year, when they travel to take on the Lions of Dowling College in a non-conference game on January 2nd.

WILDCATS HOLD OFF DOWLING, 77-74

OAKDALE, NY -- The Golden Lions of Dowling College rallied back from a thirteen point deficit to knot the game at 65 with under four minutes to play, but they were unable to pull through with the win, as they dropped 77-74 to the Wilmington University Wildcats on January 2. Dowling falls to 0-11 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 5-6.
The Wildcats broke the 4-4 tie with a seven point unanswered run to set the tone for the first half. They would go on to push to as much as an 18 point lead on a Taurean Temple lay-up and out-shot the Golden Lions 6-1 from beyond the arc. Dowling pulled within 12 in the final minutes of first half play as Ryan Lobban and James St. Roberts each drove to the hoop and Genc Selimi converted two from the charity strip to head to the locker-room down 39-27.
Wilmington kept at least a nine point advantage for the opening 13 minutes of the second half, but Dowling kicked up the intensity as they rallied back from a 13 point Wildcat hold. Lobban started the run as he connected in the paint while Josh Lowe added a five straight points and Leonard Lans added back to back tallies to knot the score at 65. With 2:48 on the clock, Selimi found the hoop to hand the Golden Lions the lead for the first time in 31 minutes. For the next two minutes of play the teams traded baskets, but it was Mike Shipman who would pull of the win for the Wildcats. Shipman went 4-for-5 in his final free throws to break the 73-73 tie and seal the win for Wilmington.
St. Roberts nailed a team high 21 points for Dowling, going 10-for-16 from the floor, and pulled down a game high 8 rebounds. Lans pitched in with 15 points while adding two assists and three steals. Lobban was the only other Golden Lion to break into double digits with 11 while Lowe and Selimi each finished with 9 points apiece.
Antonio Sherrod and Temple led the way for the Wildcats as they each put up 15 points. Kevin Cooper followed close behind with 14 points and 3 steals while Maurice Furrowh added 11.

CALDWELL ROLLS TO 74-57 WIN OVER WILMINGTON

CALDWELL, NJ -- Junior forward Manny Perez scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Caldwell College men's basketball team to a 74-57 triumph over Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The victory is the Cougars' second in a row and improves their record to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Wildcats fall to 5-7, 1-2 CACC.
Caldwell led from start to finish, leading by as many as 20 points in the first half before taking a 36-20 advantage at the break. The bulge was created by a 27-9 run over 12 minutes that put the home team ahead 36-16 with a minute left in the half. Perez scored 10 points and junior guard Carl Augustin had nine in the spree. The Cougars made 13-of-14 from the free throw line in the first half, compared to just 3-of-16 for Wilmington.
The second half was more even, as the Wildcats pulled to within 10 points three times, including 59-49 with 5:23 remaining. But that's as close as Wilmington would get, with the Cougars finishing strong by out-scoring Wilmington 15-8 the rest of the way. Caldwell enjoyed a huge advantage at the free throw line, going 27-for-32 (84.4 percent) compared to 8-for-25 (32.0 percent) for Wilmington.
Perez, whose consecutive free throws streak ended at 22, scored 25 points for the second time in three games, making 8-of-13 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line. He also recorded three blocks. Augustin finished with 12 points, and junior center Michael Luzzi recorded season highs of 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kevin Cooper led the Wildcats with 16 points and eight boards, while Antonio Sherrod chipped in with 11 and Taurean Temple added 10 points.
Wilmington returns to action on Tuesday evening, when they play host to the Chargers of Dominican College in a CACC contest beginning at 8:00 PM.

WILDCATS UPEND DOMINICAN IN OVERTIME, 96-93
NEW CASTLE, DE -- A three-pointer by junior guard Mike Shipman with 0.2 seconds on the clock, sent the Wildcats of Wilmington University into an overtime session with the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, where they pulled away for a 96-93 victory in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Pratt Center.
Dominican dominated play throughout the first half, and entered the break holding a 42-31 lead. Wilmington turned things around in the second period, slowly cutting down the Charger lead. With just over three minutes remaining, the Wildcats went on a 8-3 run. Up by three, with 18 seconds left, Dominican’s Will Carty hit a three-pointer to give the visitors the advantage (76-73). But, Wilmington answered back on the next possession, as Shipman drained the game-tying three just before the buzzer sounded to send the teams into overtime. The Wildcats led from start to finish in the overtime session, opening with a 7-0 run and never looked back as clutch free throw shooting down the stretch preserved the win.
Wilmington was led by junior guard Mike Shipman, who posted a game-high 25 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. Junior forward Antonio Sherrod added 20 points and pulled down nine boards, while senior guard Maurice Furrowh notched 17 points. Sophomore center Allen Hairston added 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior swingman Taurean Temple rounded out the Wildcats in double figures with 11 points.
The Chargers were led by Brandon Brock’s 21 points. Shelton Gibbs added 18 points, six steals, and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Tim Matchett added 15 points and five boards. Kresimar Knez chipped in with six points and eight rebounds for Dominican.
Wilmington held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Chargers by a slim 41-39 margin. The Wildcats shot over 53 percent from the floor, including 7-of-11 from three point range, while Dominican shot almost 47 percent, but were held to just 7-of-91 from behind the arc.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 2-2 in the CACC and 6-7 overall, while Dominican dropped to 1-2 in the conference and 6-7 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the Tigers of Holy Family University in a CACC contest beginning at 8:00 PM.

TIGERS ROLL TO 73-51 WIN OVER WILMINGTON
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Tigers of Holy Family University cruised to a 73-51 win over the Wildcats of Wilmington University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action Tuesday night at the Campus Center. The win gives Holy Family a record of 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the CACC, while the Wildcats dropped to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Holy Family led for all but 30 seconds in the first half, with the lead getting to as much as eight points (18-10) at the 13:01 mark. The Wildcats brought the game back to within 2 with 5:43 left in the first half with a steal by Taurean Temple giving Antonio Sherrod an easy lay-up. The Tigers ended the half on a 7-2 run giving the Tigers a seven point lead going into the half.
The second half started like the first half ended, with the Tigers going up 14 at the 17:52 mark with London Houston stealing the ball and finishing at the other end of the court with a dunk (43-29). From that point the Wildcats would pull to within nine points with 15:33 left in the game but that is as close as they would come, as the Tigers easily pulled away for the victory
Senior swingman Taurean Temple led the offense for the Wildcats with 13 points, while junior forward Antonio Sherrod chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Mike Shipman had six points and six boards, and sophomore center Allen Hairston notched four points and nine rebounds.
Michael Sturns led the Tigers with 26 points, while London Houston had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Lancaster chipped in with 21 points, with 19 coming in the first half.
Holy Family held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Wildcats by a 48-41 margin. The Tigers dominated play in the paint, notching 46 points to Wilmington’s 22. The ‘Cats had a rough night shooting, connecting at a 27 percent clip, while the hosts shot over 41 percent from the floor.

NYACK RALLIES FOR VICTORY OVER WILMINGTON, 72-69
NYACK, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University surrendered a 10-point half time lead, and fell to the host Warriors of Nyack College, 72-69 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Wilmington took control of the game early going up by 10 midway through the first half, and their lead grew to as much as 11 as they had the hot hand, shooting 50% from 3-point range and 57% from the field. The Wildcats entered the break holding a 10 point advantage (30-29).
In the second half the Wildcats defense kept Warriors offense attack at bay for the most of the second half. Midway through the period, Nyack began chipping away at the lead, and with 4:43 left in the game the Warriors took their first lead of the game (62-61). With solid free throw shooting and key rebounds in the last minutes of the game, Nyack was able to hold off Wilmington for the conference victory.
Wilmington was led by senior swingman Taurean Temple, who notched a game-high 19 points. Junior guard Mike Shipman had 11 points and 8 rebounds, while classmate Antonio Sherrod had 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Nyack had four players in double figures, led by Sheanan Martinez, Valiant Jones, and Brian Roberts who all scored 14 points a piece. John Van Dunk added 11 points. Martinez scored his 1,000th career point in the victory.

WILMINGTON, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University edged the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College 79-76, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Joseph West Jones Center. With the win, the Wildcats improved their record to 7-9 overall, and 3-4 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom fell to 10-6 overall, and 4-3 in the conference.
The Wildcats controlled most of the first half, by shooting an astounding 77.8% from the field. Wilmington trailed for only 30 seconds in the first half, and did not look back going up as much as 10 points. Goldey-Beacom battled back with 10 minutes left in the half bringing the game to within two (38-36) going into halftime.
The Lightning started the second half by taking an lead early on a 3-point shot from Adrian Miles. After that, the action was back and forth, with the two teams tying up the game 6 times in the second half. In the end, clutch free throw shooting with 29 seconds left in the game from Taurean Temple put the Wildcats up three (77-74). The Lightning’s Azeez Ellegood made a pair of free throws to bring Goldey-Beacom to with-in one. After a timeout, Wilmington’s Maurice Furrowh came up big, making two free throws of his own putting the game back up by three (79-76) with twelve seconds left in the game. The Lightning had one last chance, but Maurice Maxwell’s three-point attempt hit the back to the rim as the buzzer sounded, giving the Wildcats an exciting 79-76 win.
Wilmington was led by senior swingman Taurean Temple with 22 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Antonio Sherrod added 17 points of his own and pulled down seven boards, while senior guard Maurice Furrowh chipped in with a dozen points.
The Lightning was led by Derek Savage’s game-high 23 points. The Lightning also had three other players in double figures, including Samuel McDuffie with 17 points, Adrian Miles with 13 points, and Anthony Parham with 11 points.
Wilmington shot almost 57 percent from the floor for the game, while Goldey-Beacom shot at a 41.2 percent clip. The visitors connected on 5-of-8 shots from behind the arc, compared to just 3-of-13 shooting from the home team. The Lighting held the slight edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Wildcats by a 34-31 margin.

WILMINGTON STAVES OFF BLOOMFIELD FOR A 96-83 VICTORY
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University pulled out a 96-83 win against Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center. With the win, the Wildcats got evened their conference record at 4-4 record and improved to 8-9 overall. With the loss Bloomfield College fell to 3-5 in the CACC and 12-10 overall.
Much of the first half saw back and forth action as the game was tied four times and each team could not get more than a lead of a few points. At the 5:42 mark, the Wildcats started a 12-3 run that put them up by 11 with just a minute remaining. Bloomfield answered back with three quick points, and Wilmington entered the break holding a 44-36 lead.
In the second half, the Wildcats saw their eight point lead get wiped away when the Deacons went on a 10-2 run to start the half. Bloomfield took the lead with 13:08 left in the second half, but that would be the last lead for the rest of the game. A three-pointer by Kevin Cooper gave the Wildcats a 57-55 lead, and the hosts did not look back, and pulled away down the stretch for the 13-point victory.
Wilmington was led by senior swingman Taurean Temple, who came off the bench to net 23 points and 13 rebounds. The Wildcats had four starters in double figures, including junior forward Antonio Sherrod (19 points, 6 rebounds), senior guard Maurice Furrowh (18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists), sophomore guard Blake Rubenstein (2 points, 6 assists), and junior guard Kevin Copper (11 points).
Bloomfield’s Omari Knox notched a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds. Barney Anderson added 16 points, and Elias Brantley chipped in with 10 points and three steals for the Deacons.
The Wildcats shot 47% for the game from the field, and held Bloomfield to just 35 percent shooting, including a dismal 3-of-20 (15 percent) from behind the arc. Wilmington out-rebounded the Deacons by a 55-52 margin, and turned those caroms into 25 second-chance points.

PHILADELHPIA, PA -- The Wilmington University Wildcats fell to the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 94-68 Thursday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. With the loss the Wildcats drop to 4-5 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and 8-10 overall, while the Devils improved to 9-10 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.
For the first 10 minutes of the game, neither team led by more than four points. After a 7-0 run with 8:09 left in the first half the Devils took a 26-18 lead. The Wildcats answered with an 8-0 run of their own with 6:40 left in the half to tie the game up at 26. USP closed out the half scoring 21 points and taking a 18 point lead into the half (47-29).
The Devils’ Keith Dundas started the second half off with two straight baskets and a lay-up gave USP a 24 point lead. The Wildcats brought the game within 19 at the 13:51 mark but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Both benches played well in the game, as Wilmington’s bench scored 29 points, but the USP bench just slightly out scored them with 30 points.
Senior guard Maurice Furrowh led the Wildcats and the game with 24 points, and classmate Taurean Temple was right behind with 23 points. Junior Kevin Cooper added 7 points, while classmate Mike Shipman had four steals and six assists for Wilmington.
The Devils had four players in double figures. Keith Dundas had 23 points, Shane Conner added 16 points, Jarrod Frazier helped with 15 points, and Charlie Frithsch chipped in with 10 points. Dundas also added 5 assists and 3 steal for the hosts.

WILMINGTON NIPPED BY PHILADELPHIA, 81-78 IN TRIPLE OVERTIME
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell just short in Saturday afternoon’s Central Atlantic Colligate Conference game against the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University. With the 81-79 triple overtime loss, the Wildcats fell to 4-6 in the CACC and 8-11 overall, while the Rams improve to 9-0 in the CACC and 12-10 overall.
The Rams controlled most of the first half, going on an 11-3 run and having a 12 point advantage with 10:29 left in the first half. The Wildcats kept the game in reach with good defense and shooting 46% from the field in the first half, and entered the break down by 11.
Philadelphia kept the lead in double digits for the first five minutes of the second half, before Antonio Sherrod hit a runner to cut the lead to eight. Again the Rams, were able to hold a slim lead, and the Wildcats trimmed it to just one point (58-57) when Sherrod hit a lay-up with 1:06 left on the clock. Two free throws by Malcolm Ingram put the Rams back ahead, 60-57 with 46 seconds remaining. The Wildcats had two attempts to tie the game with three pointers, and missed both tries, but were able to pull down the offensive board. Wilmington’s Dominique Barron finally connected on a trey with eight seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 60. Philadelphia had a chance to win in it regulation, but Ingram’s shot at the buzzer came up short and the game went into overtime
Philadelphia took control early in the first overtime period and went up by four (60-64) with 2:37 left on the clock. A jumper by Wilmington’s Mike Shipman and two clutch free throws by Sherrod tied the game at 64 with 1:34 remaining. Philadelphia fired off two shots in the closing seconds, but could not connect, and the game went into a second overtime period.
The Wildcats jumped out on top to start off the second extra session, and led by as much as four with 1:43 to go. Two free throws by Russell Frederick cut the ‘Cats lead to just two (72-70), and a basket by Ingram tied the game at 72 with just over a minute to play. Wilmington’s Sherrod was fouled with 39 seconds left on the clock and converted one-of-two chances from the charity stripe. Philadelphia brought the ball up-court on the ensuing possession, and Ingram was fouled. He also converted one-of-two opportunities from the foul line, tying the game at 73. Wilmington’s Shipman tried a three-pointer in the closing seconds, but it bounced off the back of the rim, and the game went into a third overtime.
Philadelphia led by three after two minutes of the third overtime period. A lay-up by Maurice Furrowh cut the Rams lead to just one, and he converted the three-point play to tie the game at 76 with 2:23 remaining. Philadelphia’s Russell Frederick nailed a three pointer on the next possession, and Marcus Lemon hit both free throws on the following trip down the court to give the Rams a five point lead with 1:24 left on the clock. Wilmington still had fight left in them, despite having their top three scorers foul out. Furrowh hit a jumper to cut the lead to three (81-78), and the Rams’ Mike Dunn missed a three attempt to give the Wildcats one more chance. Tim Sowden came up with the rebound, and Barron’s trey at the buzzer rimmed out and sent the Wildcats away with a heartbreaking defeat.

The difference in the game came at the charity stripe, where Philadelphia converted 20-of-28 opportunities, and Wilmington got to the line just 17 times, and hit 10 of those chances.

WILDCATS UPENDED BY HOLY FAMILY, 71-66
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wilmington University Wildcats fell to the Tigers of Holy Family University Tuesday evening at the Pratt Center. With the 71-66 loss, the Wildcats fall to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference., while the Tigers improve to 12-7 overall and 8-3 in the CACC.
In the first half, the Wildcats saw the Tigers jump out to a 6-0 lead just two and a half minutes in, but Wilmington rallied and tied the game at 8 with 15:05 left in the first half. From that point, Holy Family’s lead grew to as much as 14 (29-15) with 8:06 left in the period. The Wildcats used solid defense to close out the first half, as they held Holy Family to just four points in the last 5:35, while netting nine of their own. That late spark brought Wilmington to with in seven points (35-28) entering the break.
The two teams battled back and forth to open the second half, and the Wildcats cut the Holy Family lead to only five (39-34). The tigers responded with an 8-0 run to pull ahead by 13. Wilmington still had some fight, and answered right back with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the lead to five again. The Wildcats could not get any closer than five points, before two jumpers from Maurice Furrowh and Taurean Temple cut the Tiger lead to just four points. Mike Shipman made 1-of-2 free throws to get the ‘Cats within three (69-66) with 25 seconds left, and the Wildcat defense forced a stop on the next possession. Furrowh’s game-tying three point attempt rimmed out, and Holy Family’s Ryan Lancaster sealed the game making both of his free throws with three seconds left on the clock.

The Tigers held a slight edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Wildcats by a 48-45 margin. Holy Family shot 46.2 percent from the floor, but were held to just 1-of-11 (9.1 %) from behind the arc. Wilmington shot at a 34 percent clip, including 27 percent (3-of-11) from three point range. Neither team shot particularly well from the free throw line, as Wilmington made only 13-of-22 (59.1 %), and Holy Family converted just 10-of-18 (55.6 %).

WILMINGTON EDGES CHESTNUT HILL, 72-70
NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University pulled out a close game against Chestnut Hill College on Thursday evening, knocking off the Griffins by a score of 72-70. With the win, the Wildcats improve their record to 9-12 overall and 5-7 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, while the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College fall to 3-17 on the season and 2-8 in the CACC.
In the first half, the Griffins held the shooting advantage (42%) from the field but with the Wildcats shooting 80% (8-of-10) from the free throw line Wilmington University and Chestnut Hill went into half time tied at 33 points a piece.
Wilmington led for the majority of the second half and was up 59-48 with ten minutes left in the game. With 1:45 remaining in the game, Chestnut Hill’s Julian McFadden hit a jumper and tied the game 69-69. After Wilmington’s Taurean Temple hit one-of-two free throws to put the Wildcats up by one with 1:20 left, neither team would score again until the final seconds. With just four seconds on the clock, Chestnut Hill’s Brandon Williams was fouled on a three-point attempt. Williams only converted 1-of-3 chances from the free throw line, and tied the game at 70. On the ensuing possession, Temple was fouled, and proceeded to hit both of his free throws to put the Wildcats back up by two (72-70). A three-point attempt by the Griffins’ Julian McFadden at the buzzer did not fall, and Wilmington escaped with the victory.
The Wildcats were led by junior forward Antonio Sherrod, who notched a game-high 21 points shooting 70% from the floor (7-of-10). Sherrod also collected 20 rebounds, with ten of the rebounds coming on offensive side. Senior swingman Taurean Temple added 19 points and 16 boards. Chestnut Hill had four players in double figures, led by Kevin Whaley’s17 points off the bench Trenton Davidheiser shot 7-of-10 from the field for 15 points and seven rebounds, Julian McFadden chipped in with 13 points and seven boards, while Brandon Williams added 11 points.
Wilmington dominated play on the glass, out-rebounding the Griffins by a 49-29 margin. The Wildcats shot just 37 percent from the floor, compared to almost 43 percent by Chestnut Hill, but the difference in the game was at the free throw line. Wilmington converted 22-of-26 (84.6%), and Chestnut Hill shot only 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the foul line.

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University had two chances to win in the closing seconds, but both efforts came up short and they fell to the visiting Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 61-59 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Center.
The action was back and forth for most of the first half with neither team holding a lead of more than four points until the last five minutes. With 7:02 left on the clock, Wilmington started a 10-2 run over the next five minutes, to put the ‘Cats ahead by seven with just over two minutes left in the half. The Wildcats held on and entered the break holding a 31-26 lead.
The Devils opened the second half with a 17-5 run over the first seven minutes, that gave the visitors a seven point lead (43-36). That lead was short lived, as the Wildcats answered right back with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 45 with 10 minutes left. USP went back ahead on a quick 6-0 spurt, led by three baskets by Adewale Adefemi. The Devils led by as much as seven down the stretch before Wilmington began slowly chipping away at their lead. After a three pointer by USP’s Michael Larkin put the Devils up by six, Wilmington’s Antonio Sherrod hit a lay-up, and then Taurean Temple converted an “and-one” to cut the lead to one. A steal and a lay-up by Mike Shipman gave the Wildcats a one point lead(57-56) with 4:38 remaining. USP’s Charlie Fritsch followed with an “and-one” of his own, and put the Devils back ahead by two. Wilmington tied the game at 59 with 2:09 on the clock, when Mike Shipman hit a jumper. USP’s Curtis Fitch hit a shot with 1:46 left, to put the Devils ahead by a basket (61-59). Wilmington had a few chances in the closing seconds to tie the game when the Wildcats’ Kevin Cooper was called for an offensive foul (five seconds remaining), and the ‘Cats turned the ball back over to the Devils. After two timeouts, Wilmington denied the inbounds pass, and the Wildcats got the ball back with four seconds remaining. A runner in the lane by Shipman came up short, and the Devils got the rebound to secure the victory.

WILMINGTON UPENDED BY COLUMBIA UNION, 86-80
TAKOMA PARK, MD -- The Wilmington University lost a close contest to the host Pioneers of Columbia Union College in a non-conference game Wednesday night. With the loss the Wildcats fell to 9-14 overall, while Columbia Union improved to 2-19.
The first half started off back and forth with both teams having leads in the first seven minutes of the game. A jumper by Tim Turner gave the Pioneers the lead at the 14:14 mark in the first half and from there the Pioneers took control. The Wildcats kept the game close for the next couple minutes keeping it with in five points, but an 11-3 run by the Pioneers put them up by 11, and they eventually ended the first half with a 14 point lead (48-34).
In the second half the Wildcats closed the half time gap, but could never recover from the 14 point deficit. With 3:51 left in the first half the Wildcats brought the game to 3 points (70-73), but a three point shot from Cliffon Ault put Columbia Union up by seven with 2:27 left on the clock. Solid foul shooting from the Pioneers’ Dana Clark and Maurice Stallion, helped Columbia Union on their way to the 86-80 victory.
Wilmington was led by junior forward Antonio Sherrod, who shot 50% (10-of-20) from the field giving him a team high 26 points. He also pulled down 14 rebounds. Junior guard Kevin Cooper and classmate Mike Shipman were the only other Wildcats in double figures. Cooper ended the game with 16 points, while Shipman added 10 points. Wilmington shot 40.3% as a team from the field and 63.9% from the free throw line. The Wildcats had a poor assist/turnover ratio, dishing out only eight assists while turning the ball over 14 times.
Cliffon Ault led the Pioneers with a game-high 30 points and 12 rebounds. Tim Turner added 16 points and eight assists, and Maurice Stallion had 10 points and 11 boards, while Dana Clark came off the bench and scored 18 points in 21 minutes of play. Clark shot 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from three point range. Columbia Union out-rebounded the Wildcats (52-42) and shot almost 42 percent from the floor, including 7-of-18 (38.9%) from three point range.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to take on the Eagles of Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game beginning at 3:00 PM.

WILDCATS EDGE POST, 83-80

WATERBURY, CT -- Senior forward Peter Lawal's ally-oop dunk, at the 7:33 mark of the second half, was his 1,000th career-point, for the Post University men's basketball team, against Wilmington University, Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. Wilmington would prevail though, 83-80 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest.
Lawal led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, with 14 coming in the second half. He was 10-of-19 from the field and was a near perfect from the charity stripe, connecting on 5-of-6 shooting. He led four Eagles in double-digits, as junior forward AJ Reitter chipped in with 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Each of his four field goals was from three-point range, and he pulled down six rebounds and had two blocks and a steal in 32 minutes.
Senior swingman Arthur Robertson recorded his 10th double-double of the season, and third in as many games with 12 points and 10 rebounds. He converted 4-of-9 from the floor, and was 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Freshman guard Garvin McAlister who was coming off a career-high 20 points on Wednesday against Bloomfield, had 10 points, this afternoon against Wilmington. He also had, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals, for the Eagles.
The Eagles shot 43.1 percent from the field, connecting on 28-of-65 of their shot attempts. Post sank 38.1 percent from three-point range, sinking 8-of-21 from behind the arch. In the second half, the Eagles were 6-of-12 from three-point land in the second half. The Eagles also made 16-of-19 from the charity stripe (84.2%), including 7-of-7 in the second half.
Wilmington shot 41.9 percent form the field, connecting on 31-of-74 shots. Post held the Wildcats to just 3-of-12 from three-point range, and the Wildcats made 18-of-28 (64.3%) of their foul shots.
Post out rebounded the Wildcats 44-43, but Wilmington held a 13-8 edge on the offensive glass, and took advantage, out scoring the Eagles 14-4 in second chance points. Wilmington also scored 20 points off of 19 Post turnovers. The Wildcats also held a 40-32 margin in points in the paint.
Senior swingman Taurean Temple led all Wilmington players with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds including five on the offensive glass. Junior guard Mike Shipman had 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Senior guard Maurice Furrowh had 12 points, while junior forward Antonio Sherrod recorded 10.
Post falls to 13-12 overall and 10-5 in the CACC, while Wilmington improves to 10-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play. The loss also snaps a three-game winning streak for the Eagles. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday evening when they play host to the cross-town rival Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC game beginning at 8:00 PM.

WILMINGTON DOWNED BY GOLDEY-BEACOM, 81-64
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were downed by the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 81-64 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Pratt Center.
Led by guest coach, Dr. Jack Varsalona, the President of Wilmington University, the Wildcats kept things close during the first five minutes of the game. Goldey-Beacom then went on a 13-1 run over the next five minutes to give the visitors a 27-12 lead with 9:43 left in the half. The Lightning’s Adrian Miles had three lay-ups during that spurt, and Goldey-Beacom kept the pressure on and cruised into halftime holding a comfortable 44-32 lead.
Wilmington cut the lead to 10, as they made the opening basket of the second half, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get. Goldey-Beacom coasted down the stretch, holding a double digit lead throughout the half, and picked up the important conference victory.
The Wildcats were led by senior swingman Taurean Temple, who notched 18 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Maurice Furrowh added 12 points, while juniors Mike Shipman and Antonio Sherrod each netted 11 points. Sherrod also pulled down nine boards for the Wildcats.
Goldey-Beacom was led by Derek Savage, who recorded a game-high 22 points and 18 rebounds. Adrian miles also added 22 points, seven boards, and six assists, while Maurice Maxwell chipped in with 16 points. Steven cooper rounded out the Lightning players in double figures with 10 points.
The Lightning dominated play on the glass, out-rebounding the Wildcats by a 44-27 margin. Those rebounds helped the visitors to 20 second chance points. Wilmington shot 49 percent for the game, but made just 24-of-49 attempts from the floor. Goldey-Beacom shot just over 47 percent, and connected on 33-of-70 attempts. Neither team shot particularly well from the free throw line, as Wilmington netted just 61.9 percent (13-of-21), compared to 64.7 percent (11-of-17) for the Lightning.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 6-9 in the CACC and 10-15 overall, while Goldey-Beacom improved to 7-7 in the conference and 15-10 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, February 27th, when they play host to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in a CACC game at 8:00 PM. It is the last regular season game of the year, and prior to tip-off, Wilmington will honor seniors Maurice Furrowh, Tim Sowden, Taurean Temple, and Justin Tomlinson.

WILDCATS DROP FINAL GAME TO CHESTNUT HILL, 80-75
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wilmington University Wildcats lost their last game of the season in a close contest with the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, falling 80-75 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Pratt Center.
In the first half the Griffins stared on a 7-0 run until Tim Sowden hit a jumper two minutes into the game to get Wilmington started. The first half went back and forth with each team taking the lead multiple times. After the 7-0 lead to start the game neither team led by more then five points for the rest of the half. The first half ended as Brandon Williams hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game 38.
The Wildcats controlled most of the second half until Kevin Whaley hit eight straight points for the Griffins, and helped them take a five point lead with 7:18 left in the game. Chestnut Hill stretched the lead to nine points with 2:45 left in the game but a 7-0 run by the Wildcats closed the game to two with 1:14 seconds left. The Griffins closed out the game by making 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Senior guard Maurice Furrowh had a team high 20 points, while classmate Tim Sowden shot 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line to net 18 points. Senior Taurean Temple helped out with 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Junior forward Antonio Sherrod came off the bench and shot 5-of-5 from the field for 13 points, and also pulled down nine boards.
Chestnut Hill was led by Kevin Whaley, who netted a game-high 32 points on 7-of-11 shooting from behind the arc. Brandon Williams had 25 points, while Larz Jeter added 15 point and six boards.
Wilmington had the advantage in bench scoring (19-0) and in second chance points (16-10), while the Griffins had a 27-12 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Wildcats held the edge on the glass, out-rebounding the visitors by a 47-30 margin. Wilmington shot over 50 percent from the floor, while Chestnut Hill connected at a 41 percent clip, including 11-of-28 from three point range.
Following the game, the Wildcats finished their season at 10-16 overall and 6-10 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill finished their season 4-12 in the conference and 6-21 overall.
