Wilmington University Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Info Session

Breast Cancer Info Session Guest SpeakerOctober 25, 2007—New Castle, DE. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Wilmington University hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness information session on Monday October 22, 2007. Dr. Diana Dickson-Witmer, a surgeon from the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care, appeared as the guest speaker.

Seated around a table brimming with pink flowers, candy and goody bags, Wilmington University employees and students, as well as family and friends, attentively listened to the presentation given by Dr. Dickson-Witmer.

"It's time for us to think about breast health and avoiding breast cancer," began Dr. Dickson-Witmer, as she stressed that the presentation was going to be about reducing the risks of developing breast cancer, along with preventative information.

Dr. Diana Dickson-Witmer is Associate Medical Director of the Christiana Care Breast Center and Director of the Breast Multidisciplinary Clinic. She serves as a board member of the Delaware Breast CancerCoalition, a group committed to making a positive difference Breast Cancer Info Sessionby raising awareness about theearly detection and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Dickson-Witmer was recentlyappointed to the Education Committee of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

"It is so important to actively pursuebehavior that decreases ourrisks of developing breast cancer," noted Dr. Dickson-Witmer.These behaviors include maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, cutting back on alcoholic beverages and regularly administering a breast self-exam. Women in their forties should have mammograms annually.
