Wilmington University To Hold 37th Annual Commencement Ceremonies
January 7, 2008—New Castle, DE. Wilmington University will hold its Thirty-Seventh Annual Commencement Ceremonies at the Chase Center on the Wilmington Riverfront on Sunday January 27, 2008. This will be the first commencement ceremony since the school underwent a change in designation to become Wilmington University. The graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00am for graduate students and continue at 2:00pm for the undergraduate ceremony.
Approximately 1,228 students will graduate from Wilmington University (716 graduate students and 512 undergraduate students).
The guest speaker for the Graduate Ceremony will be William A. McWatters, who completed his Doctor of Education degree from Wilmington University. He received his Master of Arts degree in Physics and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics Education with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Delaware. McWatters now teaches physics at Octorara High School in Pennsylvania and is also the Chairperson the Science Department. The Newark, Delaware resident has many professional accomplishments including the revision and alignment of the K-12 science curriculum and a complete revision of the school schedule structure, moving toward a modified block scheduling model.
The Undergraduate Ceremony guest speaker will be Monica L. Hofmann, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Wilmington University. A Dean's List scholar, she is also a member of Delta Epsilon Rho, the Wilmington University Honor Society. She is a member of the women's basketball team, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and has helped organize and lead a variety of community service activities, including canned food drives, visits to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, fundraisers and Breast Cancer walks. In November she secured a position as a Sports and Entertainment Marketing Distributor with J.D. Advertising in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is currently a resident of Matthews, North Carolina.
