Wilmington Unveils New Athletics Logos
January 17, 2008New Castle, DE. Wilmington University unveiled its new athletics logos, a representation of the name change from College to University, to the athletic department earlier today.
The primary Wilmington logo features a re-designed Wildcat with a paw coming across the words “Wilmington Wildcats”. The secondary logos depict the letters “WU”, both alone and with the Wildcat mascot. New to the design is a specific font that will be used solely for athletics at the University.
Frank Aiello, Director of Athletics, stated “I am delighted with the new look for Wilmington University. It is a refreshing change, and will help us create a new identity while keeping the same values and traditions the sports programs have had for decades. Everyone here is excited to create a new history and admiration for the new designs.”
The official school colors will remain Wilmington Green (Pantone 348) and white, however, the color of the Wildcat will be Wilmington Gold (Pantone 123). Those colors match those of Wilmington University institutional logo that was introduced earlier this fall. All of the athletics facilities, materials, and uniforms will reflect the new logos gradually, with full transition beginning in Fall 2008.
Erin Hart of the University's Office of Design and Production designed the new logos with input from various members of the athletic department and university relations staff.
“We wanted to keep the distinguished history of our athletic program at Wilmington”, said President Dr. Jack P. Varsalona. “The new logos reflect the long-standing Wildcat mascot, but at the same time, have been updated to a more modern setting. It is a very exciting time for the athletic department as we continue forward, establishing a new tradition and history with NCAA Division II.”
