Wilmington University Tops 90% United Way Campaign Participation
Thousands raised to provide services to those in need.
Wilmington University faculty and staff have raised a total of $65,222.93 in the annual United Way Fund Drive.
The University’s fundraising amount represents an increase of more than $4,668 over last year’s total. Its participation rate of 90 percent continues to be one of the highest in the state.
“It's amazing what a few dollars from each of us and an entire university can accomplish,” said Dr. Laverne Harmon, University Vice President and point person for the University's annual campaign. As United Way Education Chair for the State of Delaware, she noted the breadth of the University's United Way appeal. “Such participation is truly inspiring!” she remarked.
Prizes from the United Way random drawing, into which all employees are automatically entered once they pledge, include bookstore gift cards, a gift basket, a day off, lunch with university president Dr. Jack Varsalona and a Nikon CoolPix digital camera.
Dr. Varsalona extended his appreciation for the “unwavering generosity” of the faculty and staff, adding that participation in the annual fundraiser is further evidence of employees’ commitment to the University and the surrounding community.
“Together, we are making a difference for those who depend on the United Way and its agencies for help,” said Dr.Varsalona, who also sits on the United Way Board of Directors. “I am honored to be part of this great team!”
