Veteran, 63, to Graduate Wilmington University this Spring

Dale Meyer earns his bachelor's degree after years of military service.

Dale Meyer didn’t take the traditional route when deciding on Wilmington University for higher education. At age 63, Dale is graduating with a bachelor's degree in multimedia web design in Spring 2013.

Adjusting to college life can be a challenge for veterans, but Dale knew what he wanted out of his education. He chose Wilmington University for its small class size and high-quality instructors.

Dale was one of 46 new inductees to the College of Technology’s Delta Lambda Chapter of the Epsilon Pi Tau International Honorary Society for Professions in Technology. He was nominated based on his academic excellence, according to the College of Technology.

Dale was also inducted into the Delta Epsilon Rho Honor Society, an organization for students who make the Dean's List for three consecutive semesters. “My experience was very enjoyable," said Dale. "The students made me feel comfortable even though I was much older than most of them. The atmosphere was great for me.”

In addition to his studies, Dale is also an leader and active participant in three military-based organizations in New Castle County. He is the Commander of Young Marines of New Castle County, a member of the Thomas Holcomb Detachment of the Marine Corps League and a representative of the VFW of Newark. "These are very active organizations," Dale added. "We reach out through our community and welcome new members."

Wilmington University has been named “Military Friendly” school. Its Veterans Affairs Office coordinates programs and provides assistance to help veterans get access to educational benefits.

“We understand the challenges that our veterans face when choosing a degree program that will enhance their civilian careers," said Jim Webb, Military Affairs Coordinator for the University. "Dale is a great example of how veterans can succeed at our University.”
