Trips to Florida, Southern California Highlight Wilmington Men’s Golf 2013 Spring Schedule
Looking to defend its NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional crown and get back to the National Tournament for the third year in a row, the Wilmington University men’s golf team will play in six tournaments, releasing its 2013 spring schedule.
Entering his ninth year at the helm of the program, head coach Harry Jennings will mix in a few local tournaments, as well as host one of his own, to his usually highly travel heavy schedule for his golfers. The travel and playing in major tournaments against nationally ranked opponents has worked in the past, as the squad is the only Wilmington program to advance past an NCAA Regional stage and into the final National Tournament.
The 2013 schedule starts out in Mission Viejo, California as the Wildcats will take part in the 63rd Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by UC San Diego. The two-day opening tournament will take part on March 11-12.
The Wildcats return home and will remain local for their next two tournaments, first taking a short trip down Delaware’s Route 1 to Bethany to take part in the Bayside Invitational on March 15-17, hosted by Dowling College.
After a year hiatus, Jennings will once again host a tournament in 2013 welcoming teams to Back Creek Golf Club for the WU Spring Tournament on March 28-29. The Wildcats will then travel back to the Buccaneer Invitational in Miami Beach, Fla. on April 1-2, hosted by Barry University.
Wilmington will then look to defend its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title by taking on the conference in the CACC Tournament at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, Pa. on April 8-10 in a three-day challenge. The Wildcats have won each of the past two CACC Tournaments.
Rounding out the 2013 regular season, the Wildcats will compete in one final local tournament, playing in the GBC Spring Invitational, hosted by Goldey-Beacom College on April 13-15. The GBC Spring Invitational will hopefully be the final prep to the NCAA Super Regional in which the top team from the CACC Tournament earns an automatic berth.
