Wilmington University Takes the Plunge

Pi Gamma Mu represents University in the 2013 Polar Bear Plunge

Get ready to dive in as Wilmington University’s Beta chapter of Pi Gamma Mu honor society participates in the Lewes Polar Bear Plunge. The annual voluntary dunking into the icy Atlantic Ocean benefits the Delaware Special Olympics. This year’s Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 1p.m. in Rehoboth Beach.

Last year, the Wilmington University team raised $1,295 as they dove into the Atlantic’s cold water with over 3,600 other “Polar Bears.” Last year’s event raised a combined total of over $650,000.

The Plunge Festival begins Friday, February 1, 2013, with a weekend filled with family events. Leading up to the plunge, attendees can enjoy a Polar Ice Cream Throw Down, the Pooch Plunge, an ice sculpting demonstration and more.

Pi Gamma Mu welcomes to all staff and students to plunge or come out and support the Wilmington University team.

The Lewes Polar Bears Club held its first benefit plunge in February 1992. More than $5 million has been raised to benefit the organization. Wawa and Comcast sponsor this year’s event.
