Wilmington University Student to Attend National Conference for Women Student Leaders

Congratulations go out to Amera A. Edwards, who has received a special scholarship from the Wilmington chapter of The American Association of University Women (AAUW), to attend their National Conference of College Women Student Leaders. She is the first student to have earned this scholarship.

Thomas Hurd, site director of the Wilson Graduate Center and student advisor to the Green Team, a volunteer group of students, staff and faculty striving to raise awareness of green practices, nominated Amera for the opportunity. “I've known Amera as an employee and as a student here at the University for quite some time,” said Tom. “She is an outstanding example of the best of the University’s student population. I knew she would be a great candidate for the conference and would represent us well.”

Amera is in her junior year as a finance major and is a site associate at Wilmington University’s Wilson Graduate Center and Brandywine locations. Currently working as an intern at Civitas Partners, LLC, she has a successful track record as a member of the University’s Green Team and the honor society. Amera has played tennis for 12 years and enjoys being able to teach the sport to inner-city youth as a tutor at the Rodney Street Tennis Association in Wilmington.

The American Association of University Women is the nation’s leading voice in promoting equality and education for women. The organization has over 15,000 members and supporters with 1,000 local branches and partnerships with 700 colleges and universities.
