First year Wilmington University softball head coach Mike Shehorn and the rest of the Wildcat softball team are opening their doors on the weekend of January 25-26 for a Winter Softball Clinic for both youth and high school students.

Shehorn will conduct a youth camp (grades 2 through 8) on Saturday, January 25 from 2-6 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex on Route 40. The focus of the clinic will be bases around the proper fundamentals of: throwing, catching, and base running, as well as hitting and bunting/slapping the Wildcat Way.

The cost of the youth clinic is $60 per camper. Fill out the Youth Information Card as well as the WU Athletic Participation Waiver form and mail, scan, or fax (302-328-7376) back to head coach Mike Shehorn.

Sunday’s camp on January 26 will be for all current high school players and run from 1-5 p.m. During the high school camp, players will learn the proper fundamentals of the entire game of softball, including throwing, catching, hitting, and bunting/slapping. Also, there will be information for parents on how to make sure student-athletes are ready for the college recruiting process.

The cost of the high school clinic is $70 per camper. Fill out the High School Information Card as well as the WU Athletics Participation Waiver form and mail, scan, or fax (302-328-7376) back to head coach Mike Shehorn.

Each camp will have the opportunity to learn the game by the current Wilmington University coaching staff, as well as the current student-athletes on the softball team preparing for the upcoming 2014 season.

The camps will utilize the brand new indoor batting cages, pitching machine, whiffle balls, tees, and agility ladder, as well as the multi-purpose turf field (weather permitting).

Participants are encouraged to bring their own glove, bat, helmet, sneakers, and cleats to wear on the turf. Bats and helmets will be provided, but campers are encouraged to bring their own for size and comfort.

Registration for each of the camps closes on January 17.
