Wilmington University Holds 43rd Annual Winter Commencement Ceremonies

More than 1,325 students are preparing to receive their diplomas this Sunday as Wilmington University celebrates its 43rd Winter Commencement Ceremony at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.

The graduating class is part of a student body totaling more than 18,000. This is the largest of Wilmington University’s three commencement ceremonies annually. The second commencement is held in New Castle County in May and the third, also in May, encompasses graduates at the university’s Georgetown location.

This Sunday's commencement will include three ceremonies honoring graduates of six of the University’s seven colleges. The ceremonies will occur in the following order:

9:30 a.m.    College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business

1:00 p.m.    College of Education; College of Health Professions

4:30 p.m.    College of Social and Behavioral Sciences; College of Technology

Every ceremony features a student speaker selected by the University for exemplary academic performance and service to the community. University President Dr. Jack Varsalona will open each ceremony by greeting the graduates and their families and Dr. James D. Wilson Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, will present the degree candidates.

A number of undergraduate and graduate degree recipients will receive academic achievement awards. Chief among these are the President's Award and the Trustees Award. Student award winners are not made aware that they will be receiving their awards prior to their graduation ceremony.
