Sixth Annual Florida Alumni Celebration

On Saturday, February 22, 2014, approximately ninety alumni and friends of Wilmington University gathered at the picturesque Seagate Hotel and Spa in Delray Beach for the Sixth Annual Florida Winter Celebration.  This event, which was hosted by University president, Dr. Jack Varsalona, was an opportunity for alumni and friends to reconnect with Wilmington University, celebrate their Wildcat pride, and learn about new programs and initiatives being created.

The event was a lavishly appointed hors d’oeuvre and cocktail reception accentuated by a setting of Florida sun and tropical breeze.  The evening included a presentation by Dr. Stefanie Whitby, Senior Director of Alumni Relations, and Gloria Johnson, Director of Annual Fund, which showcased the many achievements of the different colleges, athletic teams, and student life initiatives.  Dr. Whitby also encouraged the alumni to remain connected to their University, sharing the many benefits that come with active participation in the school’s alumni association.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Phil Dickman, class of 1973, shared his experiences at, what was then, Wilmington College.  Mr. Dickman said that the time he spent at the school was one of the defining periods of his life.  His continued affection for his alma mater was beautifully communicated by the fact that he stills wears his college ring daily.  Mr. Dickman is a wonderful testament to the lasting impact of a quality education.

The presentation concluded with Dr. Varsalona, who offered a heartfelt word of gratitude to those in attendance, who have faithfully carried the spirit of Wilmington University into their respective circles of influence.  This evening was truly a celebration of the fact that a commitment to the values of Wilmington University cannot be contained by a geographical region. No, the influence of this great school can be felt all over.
