Wilmington University Honors High School Graduates at “Our Community Salutes" of Delaware

Major General Frank Vavala, Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard, is keynote speaker.

Wilmington University and the Delaware Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) are partnering to host the third annual “Our Community Salutes" of Delaware dinner gala. 

This premier event will be held May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Doberstein Admissions Center Auditorium at the New Castle campus of Wilmington University to recognize and honor Delaware high school seniors who have chosen to enlist into the military following graduation.

Major General Frank Vavala, Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard, and Lieutenant Colonel Donald Moor, Executive Officer of the 4th Marine Corps District, will be the keynote speakers at the dinner. NBC 10 News Delaware correspondent Tim Furlong will emcee the evening, which will also include junior ROTC cadets from William Penn High School, who will present the colors and perform at the event. 

More than 40 students and their parents will be honored for their service commitment to the U.S. military. Each attending enlistee will receive Letters of Appreciation from the U.S. Senators Tom Carper(D-Delaware) and Chris Coons (D-Delaware, as well as from U.S. Congressman John Carney (D-Delaware).

"Our Community Salutes" is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that supports high school graduates who choose to enlist in the U.S. military. Nationwide ceremonies are planned and conducted by volunteers, including military veterans, high school and college educators, local businesses, community leaders and active duty military personnel.
