Wilmington University Hosts "Hiring Our Heroes" Event

Veterans and military job seekers helped with tips for job search, networking and interviewing.

Wilmington University and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted Operation Success and "Hiring Our Heroes,'a military job fair and outreach event at the Wilmington University Dover site on Tuesday, June 10.

Ten people were hired as a result of meeting with employers who also attended this event. Other services included military benefit reviews and a "clothes closet" of new suites and other appropriate job interview attire free to both men and women.  An employment workshop was held prior to the event that specifically focused on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation to civilian job needs and interviewing skills.

"I was gratified to see so many current and former military waiting for the doors to open," said Jim Webb, Director of Military Affairs at Wilmington University. "This event helped over 95 attendees get their resumes in order, get interview tips, even interview on the spot with employers' representatives."

The event was conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Delaware Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Services (DOL VETS), the Delaware Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the American Legion, Goodwill Industries International, NBC News, Wilmington University and other local partners.
