Wilmington University Hosts Homecoming Weekend 2014
New this year! Pre-game Tailgating, Networking Happy Hour and 5K Run/Walk
Show your Wildcat Pride, Wilmington University!
2014 Wildcat Pride Week culminates in a tremendous Homecoming celebration beginning on Friday evening, September 19, and finishing up "around the town" on September 21. With new attractions and some old favorites, this year promises to be the best Homecoming yet!
This year's Homecoming weekend kicks off with a Networking Happy Hour at World Café Live at the Queen, 500 North Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost for the happy hour is $15 per person and attendees must RSVP by registering for the event. (Click here to register.) There will be plenty of people to connect with, get reacquainted with and learn from as experts in a variety of fields talk with you about how to use social media for job connections, possible new career opportunities and how to use everything you know to network your way to the top.
On Saturday, everyone is invited to enjoy WilmU's first ever pre-game TAILGATING in the University Sports Complex parking lot at 1365 Pulaski Highway, just off Route 40 (at Walther Road)! Everyone is encouraged to show their Wildcat pride by decorating your tailgating space. Prizes will be awarded for those tailgaters who show the most school spirit, so bring your streamers and pom poms and decorate your space your way in true Wildcat colors!
Next on Saturday, alumni, tailgaters, families and visitors can move from the parking lot and enjoy an afternoon of NCAA Division II Men's and Women's soccer. Both Wildcat teams play to win against Concordia College while everyone enjoys coal fired pizza, ice cream, sodas and more at the University's beautiful Athletic Complex and field. It's an easy, fun-filled afternoon with a moon bounce, photo booth and face painting for the kids and plenty of action on the field for spectators.
After the game, alums and visitors are invited to continue the fun together by catching up at local restaurants and other nearby establishments.
New this year is Wilmington University's Homecoming Spirit 5K Run/Walk and Kids Romp on Sunday, September 21, at Glasgow Park, 2199 Pulaski Highway, in Newark, Delaware. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. Early registration is $15 per person, going up to $20 per person on the day of the race. Runners and children can make it more fun by arriving decked out in creative WilmU attire - the more creative, the better - to run and show off real Wildcat pride!
Registration cost includes a special race t-shirt, awards and an awards ceremony, which will take place after the race. Following the award presentations, there will be an after party featuring a selection of healthy food and beverages.
After so much activity, alumni and students are invited to wind down Homecoming Weekend on Sunday afternoon with "WilmU Around Town." Enjoy one-day-only discounts especially and specifically for WilmU alumni and students to local venues and museums in the New Castle County area and around Glasgow Park. Visit wilmu.edu/WUAroundTown for an updated list of exciting discounted destinations.
