Do You Have an Emergency Response/Disaster Recovery Plan?

Hands-on exercise at Wilson Graduate Center helps local businesses plan for the worst.

The First State Chapter Association of Contingency Planners (ACP) will conduct a business continuity/disaster recovery (BCDR) tabletop exercise from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, at the Wilmington University Wilson Graduate Center, 31 Reads Way in New Castle, Delaware.

The BCDR exercise is free and open to the public.

This tabletop planning exercise will evolve around simple guidelines for creating a successful business continuity and disaster recovery plan and will include representatives from 10 area, including hospital, refinery, schools and government among others. Attendees will learn how to draft a basic BCDR plan based on best practices covering risk assessment, business impact analysis and other key data points.

"Businesses are taking a fresh look at their BCDR strategies and most are finding they fall painfully short," said author and event speaker Harry Fisher. "The time it takes to overcome any disaster, be it flood, fire, water main break or equipment malfunction, can create days of downtime that can cripple a business or organization. Nearly 4 businesses out of 5 that face a catastrophic event without a contingency plan are out of business within two years, and those that cannot resume business operations within 5 days are out of business within a year."

Attendees are required to RSVP for this event by Thursday, November 6. Click here to register. To RSVP directly, get directions or obtain additional information, please email firststateacp@gmail.com.
