Wilmington University Alumna is an Award Winning Entrepreneur Looking to Make a Difference!

When most people see an old, used mattress, all they see is garbage, but WilmU alumna, Tanya Whye, sees a whole lot more.  Tanya sees a way to preserve our planet, and create real world jobs for disenfranchised men and women, many of whom need a second chance in life.  Mrs. Whye is the founder and president of Delaware Green Mattress Disassembling and Recycling LLC, a company whose mission is all about “Recycling Mattresses and Restoring Lives”.

Tayna Whye, who holds a MBA in Environmental Stewardship from Wilmington University, is passionate about seeing new life come to that which has been discarded by most –– both mattresses and more importantly, people who have made some mistakes in life.  She birthed this socially conscious company to collect and recycle mattresses and box springs, diverting them from landfills.  In the process, she is also creating jobs for first offenders and giving them transferable employment skills.

Tanya is doing incredible work, and it is getting noticed!  She, along with forty other entrepreneurs, recently entered a premier pitch competition, hosted by Great Dames, to present her business model and wound up winning first place!  The prize included over $25,000 in cash and services, and none other than Delaware’s First Lady, Carla Markell, delivered the award.

Great work, Tanya!  Your alma mater is very proud of the difference you are making in our community!
