Wilmington University Graduate Student Kendall Wilson Wins Prestigious NBCC Foundation Scholarship Award

Scholarship is the only NBCC $5000 scholarship in the U.S., selected from a field of hundreds of applicants.

Kendall Wilson, third year graduate student in the Wilmington University Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, was selected as the singular 2015 U.S. recipient of a $5000 scholarship from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Foundation. The NBCCF scholarship program is highly competitive as only one such scholarship is awarded domestically each year. There are two additional NBCCF scholarships for international students.

In December, the NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors, selected the recipients of the 2015 Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) scholarships, including the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) scholarships, the Board Certified Coach (BCC) tuition assistance program and the CCE Professional Development Awards.

“I'm honored to be the only person to receive this scholarship domestically," Wilson said. "I’m shocked and humbled to be chosen out of what I imagine must be a very sizable and impressive pool of applicants."

The NBCCF scholarship program goal is to increase the number of available professional counselors who provide quality career development services. By doing so, the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Scholarship Program plays an important role in the Foundation’s mission to leverage the power of counseling by strategically focusing resources for positive change.

These scholarships are made possible by generous corporate support from the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). The NBCC Foundation administers the scholarships on the CCE’s behalf.

“This is wonderful for Kendall, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program and Wilmington University," said Dr. Doris Lauckner, chair of the CMCH program in the Wilmington University College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. "The success of our educational process is reflected in Kendall's efforts and work, which are now being honored and supported through her NBCCF scholarship.”

"I cannot say enough good things about the instructors at WilmU and how they help you understand the material you are learning," Wilson added. "Everyone supports you as a student when you're going through such a life changing program.”

To be eligible for the scholarships:

U.S. applicants for the GCDF scholarship must hold an active GCDF credential in good standing and be enrolled in a master’s-level program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

International applicants must either hold an active GCDF credential in good standing and be enrolled in an advanced education program in counseling, or be a student currently enrolled in both a GCDF training program and a post bachelor’s counseling program as appropriate to their country.
