Green and White Scholarship Ball

Partying with a Purpose

Imagine a place full of enchantment and wonder. A place laced with elegance and filled with themed decorations, live music, dancing, and international cuisine. Where the motive behind the grand evening was much deeper than just having a good time. Imagine everyone that paid to have their world transformed for that one night had one common goal: to make a difference in the life of another.

The Annual Green and White Ball is a memorable event that Wilmington University holds every year to raise money for student scholarships. On October 24h, the entire Doberstein Admissions Center was remodeled for the night while students, alumni, staff, the public, and most importantly, scholarship recipients took a walk down the green carpet and danced the night away as the proceeds of their tickets went to scholarships. The excitement of walking into the Irish Pub and witnessing guests singing and performing traditional Irish stepping only to walk another a few feet and experience the beauty of the Caribbean is truly unforgettable. A few of the scholarship recipients that were awarded the opportunity to attend shared their feelings towards the evening.

“Going to the Green and White Ball as a scholarship recipient was such a tremendous honor. Thank you to all the donors and my fellow scholarship recipients who made this night possible.” – Shanera Thomas

“I was nervous & excited. The fact that I got to see where my scholarship came from made me overwhelmed with emotion. Everyone was so friendly, dressed nice, and very humble. The donors were so welcoming and excited for me that I was a recipient. From the decorated rooms to the entertainment, it was beyond my expectation. I am extremely overwhelmed with gratitude.” - Teresa Hayward

With the variety of international themed rooms, food, and music it could be easy for one to think that this was the best part of the night. However, the main highlight was the amount of students that paid to be a part of this magical night. Students helping students. When asked why it was so important to attend one student expressed:

“I personally wanted to go to this event because a lot of my friends have gone and have told me how much fun they had. WilmU has given so much to me, why wouldn’t I want another student to have that chance too? I went last year as well and had the time of my life both times. It’s definitely an event I would suggest people to go to. You get to experience all the different cultures through food and drink then get to dance the night away while making a difference at the same time.” – Courtney Blair

The Green and White Ball was a wonderful success. Thank you to everyone that donated their time, money, and energy to create an opportunity for students to experience their academic journey with one less burden on their shoulders.

Your contributions are not taken for granted and will continue to make a difference in the lives of students that wear the colors green and white with pride.
