Wilmington University Baseball Signs Eddie Hazeldine to 2016 Wildcats Contract

Every RBI and strikeout will pledge funds to help 13-year old muscular dystrophy survivor through the Muscle Movement Foundation

The Wilmington University baseball team is pleased to announce Eddie Hazeldine as the newest member of the Wildcat family. Hazeldine signed a Letter of Participation for the 2016 season at the University Sports Complex on March 3 in front of the Wildcat team, head coach Brian August, family and friends.

Hazeldine is a 13-year old muscular dystrophy survivor who refuses to lose to duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic form of muscular dystrophy. He joins the Wildcats through the Muscle Movement Foundation thanks to organization founder and president Rob DeMasi.

The Wildcats will be playing with a special purpose to "Strikeout Muscle Disease" and help Hazeldine specifically for the entire 2016 season. For example, for every RBI a hitter brings home, a pledge will be made; for every strikeout a pitcher records, a pledge will be made.

All pledges made on Hazeldine's behalf will be paid at the end of the season.

Hazeldine is transitioning to full time wheel chair use. He needs a power wheelchair, a wheelchair-accessible automobile and a wheelchair ramp for access to his home. By "going to bat" for Hazeldine, the 2016 Wildcat  baseball team will raise awareness about muscle disease as they raise funds for him.

Hazeldine will attend select home games throughout the season. "We hope the fans, students and the community who attend games at Wilson Field will give a warm Wilmington University Wildcat welcome to Eddie and his family whenever he's spotted at the field," said Coach August at the signing.
