Wilmington University Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau Honors Technology Achievers

Honor society welcomes Delaware transportation secretary and a legacy member to annual ceremony.

Wilmington University recognized students and teachers of technology, as well as a state official and a very special guest, at its sixth annual induction ceremony for Epsilon Pi Tau on November 18.

The WilmU chapter of the international honor society for technology professions welcomed Delaware Secretary of Transportation Jennifer Lynn Cohan to the dinner and ritual. She spoke about her department's use of technology to improve the efficiency of daily commutes, including roadside bluetooth sensors that collect traffic data and mobile apps that communicate changing conditions to drivers.

Chapter trustee Susan L. Gregg, the chair of media design in the College of Technology, acknowledged another distinguished guest at the evening's event: her father, Albin A. Gregg, who had joined the honor society in 1948 while studying at California State Teachers College.

The elder Gregg crafted the wooden holders for the triangle used in the initiation ritual, she said. She also noted that she was wearing the gold Epsilon Pi Tau tie clip he'd received at his own induction 68 years ago.

The 15 student inductees included Adam J. Barto, Nathan D. Carr, Dan R. Cassidy, Sean M. Cook, Jeffery S. Davis, Nicholas P. Gaunt, Ali M. Jafri, Ashton R. Jenkot, Aimee L. Lackford, Ankita Raj, Taylor L. Rapuano, Samantha A. Reynolds, Amber E. Sarno, Francisco Stallworth and Stephi Thomas.

Four faculty members were also inducted: Than N. Lam, Carolyn A. McGuinness, Diane S. Murphy and Angel R. Partie.

Founded in 1928, the year of Albin Gregg's birth, Epsilon Pi Tau was created to recognize leaders and potential leaders in industrial arts and vocational education. As technology has evolved, the honor society has expanded its focus and its role in educational institutions.

The organization counts 127 chapters nationwide to honor students and faculty at two- and four-year post-secondary schools and professionals in the field.
