Two Wilmington University Videos Win Coveted Telly Awards
Short films on class attendance and College of Technology Dean honored in merit-based judging
Two online videos produced by Wilmington University's multimedia team have been recognized as 2017 Telly Award winners.
The video "Welcome to the Semester! Summer 2015," in which student Julie Jones — and also student Julie Jones — demonstrate good and bad attendance behavior, was awarded a Silver Telly, the top honor in the peer-based judging.
"Meet the Dean: College of Technology," which features Dr. Mary Ann Westerfield, Dean of the Wilmington University College of Technology, along with a two-minute tour of the University's cutting-edge coursework, was named a Bronze Telly finalist.
The videos were among several that Online Learning and Ed Tech multimedia manager Russ Lichterman submitted as educational entries in the awards' non-broadcast category. "It is amazing to see them recognized by others in the industry," he said.
University administrators agreed. "This is a tremendous honor, representing outstanding work by all," said Dr. Sallie Reissman, assistant vice president and dean of the College of Online and Experiential Learning.
Dr. Eileen Donnelly, vice president of enrollment management, saw the awards as the evidence of an indisputably talented staff. "This is great news," she said, "and I thank Russ and his team for the work they do to promote Wilmington University's educational offerings through multimedia technology."
For nearly 40 years, the Telly Awards have been honoring films, videos and commercials, as well as the advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and multimedia departments that produce them, based on technical and artistic merit.
According to the awards program's press materials, approximately 7 to 10% of submitted entries are chosen by a panel of judges — which includes previous winners — as Silver Telly recipients, with multiple winners chosen in each category. Another 18 to 25% of entries are deemed worthy of a Bronze Telly.
