Debra Johnson

One Wilmington University Wildcat is using the power of words to inspire others. Debra Johnson, an undergraduate student majoring in Business Management with a minor in Human Resources Management, recently published her third book of inspirational poetry entitled, ‘Poetry for the Mind, Spirit and Soul.’ The book, which was released in September, is available for purchase on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Debra explains that this book is a collection of poems “written to encourage and heal those who may be emotionally [or] physically bound.” As she was writing this collection of poems Debra had to face some very trying times. Within a six-month period she lost two of her siblings and was left in emotional despair. Writing the poetry helped her pull through these dark hours and start “the first step towards healing.” Johnson says, “I didn’t just survive, but I got stronger and wiser.”

Prior to this book Debra has written two collections of inspirational poems. Her first collection was released as ‘Excerpts on Life…A Collection of Inspirational Poems and Thoughts, Volume I’ in 2003. A year later she released a second volume of poetry. These volumes can also be purchased on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Debra Johnson intends to graduate from Wilmington University in the fall of 2010. She hopes to use the degree to further her career as an inspirational speaker and writer. Debra regularly visits and encourages the troops, and is a welcomed face at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She continues to write and is currently at work on two new projects.
