Wilmington University Students will Showcase Artwork at Unearthed Variety Show

Wilmington University students from the College of Arts and Sciences will showcase their artwork this weekend at a local variety show for artists, musicians and undiscovered talent. Unearthed, an event organized through OperaDelaware, will be held on Saturday, June 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at OperaStudios on Wilmington’s Riverfront. Created to help local musicians and artists gain the recognition they deserve, Unearthed will showcase the region’s best undiscovered talent, while bringing together artists, designers, photographers, comedians, musicians and DJs.

“We hope to celebrate and expose the sheer genius this region has hiding in the woodwork,” said Brianna Hansen, Director of Marketing and Operations at OperaDelaware. “While simultaneously giving back to our community.” Proceeds from the event will benefit OperaDelaware's Education and Community Outreach programs and a food drive is being held to support the Food Bank of Delaware.

Students from Wilmington University will be in good company at Saturday’s event. Local artists set to appear include Spaceboy Clothing, Pinstruck Tattoo, Higgins Media, Monkey King Designs, Kristen Margiotta, Wilmington University employee Erin O’Connor and photographer Brian Truono, to name a few. A stunning musical lineup will feature:

  • Diego Paulo – Recently appeared on VH1’s Save the Music Fest
  • Revolution, I Love You – 2009 Delaware Music Award winners
  • New Sweden – WSTW Hometown Heroes
  • The Hold-Up – A four piece rock and roll group
  • Rory Sullivan – Named one of the Best New Artists of 2009
  • Bill McConney – Philadelphia acoustic act

The Black Box Theater space will be transformed into a "nightclub gallery”, housing five DJs and large artwork created by local artists including Wilmington University student and employee, Nicole Karam. Black Box entertainment will be provided by DJ Bryon Stout, DJ Devant (both from Philadelphia), DJ Skinny White, and DJ Zip.

Admission will be $5 in advance, $10 at the door. Food drive donations will receive discounts off food and drinks. This event is 18 to enter, 21 to drink. For more information contact bhansen@operade.org.
