Wilmington University Student is Accepted in NASA Academy
Wilmington University student Jeff Szczubelek was recently accepted to the NASA Aeronautics Academy for one of its coveted internships.
Szcubelek is a math teacher at Delaware Technical Community College. He is earning his master’s degree in Applied Technology in Education at Wilmington University.
Prior to his acceptance, Szczubelek was proactive in building his experience with NASA. He was part of the team that developed a ten-day experiment on G-Force One, NASA's microgravity jet, in 2012. Szczubelek was awarded for his hard work in 2013 with a grant scholarship.
“I applied to a few NASA academies, with the Langley Aeronautical Academy being my first choice,” Szczubelek said. “With the help and recommendation of the Delaware Space Grant and the support of Dr. Jim Boyd, I was selected to the Langley summer academy.”
The NASA Academy is an intensive summer project for highly motivated and successful undergraduate and graduate students. Each year, the Academy selects high-achieving students in a variety of academic disciplines from U.S. universities across the country. The purpose is to identify and bring together likely future leaders in U.S. space activity.
Szczubelek's internship at the Academy at Langley Research Center will extend from May 28 to August 8, 2014.
