Wilmington University Students’ Work to be Shown at Cannes Film Festival

Movie-making experience culminates at world wide competition for short films.

Lights, camera, action!

Wilmington University students and faculty will have their work gracing the silver screen at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

Five students of the video and motion graphics program (VMG) worked on a short film entitled, The Script, which was shot in the University on-campus studio. The group assisted director and screenwriter, Ashay Javadekar, of the Independent Filmmakers Association of Delaware.

The students were able to get firsthand experience in set design and construction, filming, editing and production.

The short film was inspired by "The Dreaming," a one act play by Richard James. In the film, two men find themselves in a featureless room with no memory of how they arrived there or even who they are. The characters get clues to these mysteries from scraps of paper.

Short films featured at the Cannes Film Festival compete for coveted awards that have been known to set filmmakers' careers in motion. There is also a "Short Film Corner," where filmmakers meet, discuss and exchange ideas, and promote their latest work.
