Delaware Small Business Chamber Offers New Wilmington University Scholarship

The Delaware Small Business Chamber (DSBC) has announced that it is giving back to the community through the creation of a special scholarship for a selected student who attends Wilmington University. The objective of the scholarship is to encourage the recipient to develop and open a new business in Delaware following graduation.

Founded in 2011, the DSBC is a statewide resource for small businesses, and the larger businesses that work with those local small business owners, throughout Delaware and the surrounding region.

The DSBC Scholarship will have a total value of $3600, to which Wilmington University will contribute partial matching funds.

Students can apply for the scholarship through the Wilmington University Graduate Admissions Office. Each interested student will be required to fill out an application and write a business plan essay that will be reviewed along with the application.

Those who wish to apply for the scholarship should be aware of the following requirements. The selected scholarship recipient must:

·    Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.00 scale).

·    Be a junior or senior at the University.

·    Attend one to two Delaware Small Business Chamber events annually.

The winner of the scholarship will be announced the end of August, 2014.

Wilmington University is a private, non-profit university that offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs in a wide range of career areas. With seven fully accredited colleges and programs ranging from business and education to technology, health professions and behavioral sciences, the University marked the graduation of 3300 students in 2014 and has a current enrollment of 19,000 students.

“We are very proud of being able to give back to the business community in our third year of operations,” said Bob Older, president and founder of the Delaware Small Business Chamber. “We are excited to partner with Wilmington University in our initial community give-back program. As we continue making progress, we have many other such programs planned and look forward to partnering with other Delaware resources.”
