Wilmington University Presents 6th Successful Green and White Scholarship Ball

Local sponsors, area business and community leaders and guests treated royally in support of scholarships for deserving students.

Wilmington University once again pulled out all the stops in hosting its sixth annual Green and White Scholarship Ball at the New Castle Campus on Saturday, October 25, 2014. As the event began, guests were greeted by scholarship student ambassadors and live mariachi music as they entered the Doberstein Admissions Center.

Once inside the doors, the University melted away as guests entered the Grand Ballroom, filled with live popular dance music, champagne and arguably one of the best silent auctions in Delaware. Guests were invited to experience the magical atmosphere of lavishly decorated, location-themed rooms throughout the building, each with appropriate live music, dancing and food from the area's finest restaurants.

The Green and White Scholarship Ball, recognized throughout Delaware as a premier gala event, is also an opportunity for local businesses, corporate sponsors, and community leaders to connect with Wilmington University and create benevolent partnerships.

"This event is always very special for the Wilmington University community,” said Gloria Johnson, Director, Alumni Relations and annual fund director at Wilmington University. "Our generous sponsors and supporters allow us to offer a wonderfully entertaining evening to our guests. I'm especially grateful to the committee members for all of the hard work they did to make this year's Ball another stellar event."

The community attends the Green and White Ball as an investment in the education of capable and deserving students who might not have the resources to attend college. The evening creates lasting memories for all who attend thanks to the music, food and people, without whom none of the festivities could happen. Most importantly, the scholarships that will result from the generosity of the guests who also participated in the silent auction helped future deserving students attain unlimited potential through higher education.

Senator Chris Coons (D-Delaware) was one of many VIPs and dignitaries who attended the gala. "Wilmington University continues to lead the way in providing an impressive amount of student scholarship support," said Coons. "Students who receive scholarships and complete their studies at WilmU benefit Delaware as well-trained teachers, business people and technology leaders who give their expertise back to their communities and the state."

Students who were beneficiaries of  the Wilmington University Annual Scholarship Fund as a result of this important fundraising gala were on hand to greet guests and personally thank them for their support.

"The scholarship recipients who benefited from the proceeds from last year's gala were given the opportunity to thank the donors first hand as one of our student greeters," said Johnson. "Since all proceeds from this event will go toward scholarships for additional students, we are most pleased that many want the opportunity to say 'thank you' in person."

"I was so thankful to be a scholarship recipient of the Wilmington University's Annual Scholarship Fund," said Jeanette Halliburton, who, thanks to her own scholarship award, is working on her Master of Business Degree in Marketing. "It was always a dream I had to attend the Green and White Scholarship Ball. I felt honored to represent my school this year and show my personal appreciation for the scholarship that helps pay for my education."

The Green and White Ball delivered a lot of fun for all who attended. Guests posed for fun souvenir photos in between room visits, dined on the best offerings of Wilmington's top restaurants, chatted over beverages with old and new friends, danced to a variety of music, then enjoyed a delicious array of desserts and Godiva coffee.

The decorated theme rooms were donated by sponsors of the Green and White Ball. Sponsorships are available each year for businesses and individuals who support Wilmington University in providing scholarships for deserving students.
