Deliver a Gift to Those In Need

Wilmington University and CBS Philly team up again for the "Joy of Sharing" Toy Fest

For the fourth year in a row, Wilmington University is partnering with KYW-TV 3, Philadelphia's CBS affiliate, to bring holiday cheer to the area's less fortunate children through the annual Joy of Sharing Toy Fest. Toy Fest kicked off at the University on November. 21 and will continue through Tuesday, December. 20.

The charity drive is collecting toys as well as monetary donations pledged via text message to provide gifts for children who might not otherwise receive them this holiday season. The Salvation Army of Delaware will receive and distribute the donated and purchased toys to area communities.

"Our university is about giving and providing people throughout Delaware and other communities with opportunities to succeed," said Dr. Regina A. Allen-Sharpe, Senior Director of Career Services and Student Life at Wilmington University, who is heading up this year's toy drive efforts. "Our communities support us, so we're being supportive of our communities."

Students, faculty, staff and other members of the WilmU community can participate in the Joy of Sharing Toy Fest in three ways:

•   Text the word JOY to 41444 through December 20 to make an automatic $10 donation (standard message and data rates may apply). All monetary donations will fund the purchase of new toys for the drive.

•   Drop off new, unwrapped toys for children of any age at designated collection sites in the New Castle campus's Pratt Student Center, the Wilson Graduate Center or in Building A at the Dover campus before 4:30 p.m. on December 6.

•   Help "stuff the Buick." On December 7 from 12 noon to 4 p.m., CBS 3 Philly and toy drive co-sponsor Buick will park a sport utility vehicle in front of the Doberstein Admissions Center on the New Castle campus.

On December 7 from 12 noon to 4 p.m., CBS 3 Philly and drive co-sponsor Buick will park a sport utility vehicle in front of the Doberstein Admissions Center on the New Castle campus. Wildcats mascot Wiley D. Wildcat, along with the national champion Wilmington University cheerleading squad and other student groups will be on hand to collect toy donations and pack up the vehicle for delivery of the toys.

In last year's drive, Wilmington University collected $1,375 in text message donations along with more than 180 toys.
