Finding Work and Finding Yourself

"50 Jobs in 50 States" author Daniel Seddiqui visits Wilmington University's Speaker Series on March 2

Meet Daniel Seddiqui, the man USA Today dubbed "The Most Rejected Person in the World." After 18,000 e-mails and more than 40 job interviews failed to secure steady employment for this University of Southern California economics graduate, he became "The World's Most Ambitious Job-Seeker" when he hit the road in search of a job in every state over the course of a year.

On Thursday, March 2 at 6 p.m., in the Doberstein Admissions Center auditorium on Wilmington University's New Castle campus, Seddiqui will talk about his 2008 occupational odyssey in "Settling is the Biggest Sacrifice," his personal chronicle of his working experiences as a lobsterman in Maine, a corn farmer in Nebraska, a border patrol agent in Arizona and an incorporation specialist in Delaware, to name only a few. Seddiqui is the first speaker in the 2017 Wilmington University Speaker Series.

This talk is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to register in advance. The university's main campus is located at 320 N. DuPont Highway in New Castle.

Seddiqui's travels have earned him a place as a quotable job-hunting expert in national and international media. He has been behind the podium at career conferences, college campuses and national organizations, all of which led to the publication of his 2011 book, 50 Jobs in 50 States: One Man's Journey of Discovery Across America. They have also sparked the creation of Living the Map, his innovative career education and socioeconomic outreach organization.

In addition to providing postcard glimpses of the culture and economy of each state, Seddiqui's coast-to-coast journey brought him insights into the nature of work, the importance of learning from others and the keys to perseverance in the face of adversity.

"We have to apply and connect what we learn and recognize how it can benefit us," he said.

This Wilmington University Speaker Series event is being sponsored by the College of Online and Experiential Learning. For more information about this event, email to coel@wilmu.edu or call (302) 295-1160.
