WILMINGTON DROPS TWO ON DAY ONE OF WILDCAT INVITATIONAL
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington College dropped two matches on the opening day of the Wildcat Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Pratt Gymnasium on Friday.
Wilmington dropped the first match to the visiting Rams of Shepherd University (2-3) by a score of 3-0 (22-30, 33-35, 24-30). The Wildcats were paced by junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern who posted nine kills. Senior middle Julia Atkins and junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire each notched seven kills, while Shropshire had 16 digs. Freshman Meghan Frick added six kills and a match-high 24 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy recorded 26 assists and 13 digs for the double-double effort.
In the second match of the afternoon, the Wildcats fell to the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University (1-1) in three games (14-30, 26-30, 19-30). Wilmington was again led by senior Julia Atkins’s seven kills and four blocks. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill recorded a match-high 19 digs, while Kristie Shropshire had four kills and 11 digs.
Following the matches, Wilmington dropped to 0-2 on the season. The ‘Cats return to action on Saturday, for day two of the Wildcat Invitational, when they take on the Dolphins of Le Moyne College at 11:00 AM. Wilmington closes up the tournament with a 5:00 PM match against the Golden Lions of Dowling College.

WILDCATS FALL ON DAY TWO OF WILDCAT INVITATIONAL
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington College dropped two matches on the second day of the Wildcat Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Pratt Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Wilmington dropped the first match to the visiting Dolphins of LeMoyne College (1-2) by a score of 3-0 (15-30, 21-30, 28-30). The Wildcats were paced by senior middle hitter Julia Atkins who posted 11 kills. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire notched seven kills and 15 digs, while freshman Meghan Frick added four kills and a match-high 20 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy recorded 18 assists and 16 digs for the double-double effort.
In the second match of the afternoon, the Wildcats fell to the Golden Lions of Dowling College (3-8) in three games (23-30, 20-30, 18-30). Wilmington was led by junior Kristie Shropshire’s six kills. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill recorded a match-high 18 digs, while Julia Atkins had four kills and two blocks.
Following the matches, Wilmington dropped to 0-4 on the season. Senior middle hitter Julia Atkins was named to the All-Tournament team for efforts during the Wildcat Invitational. Atkins led the team in kills, aces, and blocks during the tournament. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday evening, when they travel to Caldwell College to take on the Cougars in a CACC match beginning at 7:00 PM.

CALDWELL, NJ -- The Caldwell College volleyball team opened the 2007 season with a 3-0 (17-30, 23-30, 19-30) loss to Wilmington College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate conference match Wednesday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The victory is the first of the season for the Wildcats (1-4 overall, 1-0 CACC), while the Cougars start the year with a 0-1 record.
The Cougars, who started five freshmen, trailed for most of the match. But in the third game, neither team led by more than two points, with Caldwell pulling to within 19-18. Wilmington wrapped up the match at that point, scoring 10 of the next 11 points for a three-game victory.
Freshman outside hitter Justine Pecora led Caldwell with 11 kills in her collegiate debut. Freshman setter Kendra Kane recorded 22 assists and had eight digs, with junior Laura DeVico and sophomore Elizabeth Newcomb also recording eight digs apiece.
Sophomore middle hitter Katie Mason led the Wildcats with 12 kills. Cheyann Gilroy dished out 34 assists in the win, while junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire added four kills and 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick chipped in with eight kills and nine digs, while classmate Brittany O’Neill posted 10 digs. Senior Julia Atkins and and freshman Michelle Boyd each notched seven kills for Wilmington.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Millersville University to take part in the Dutch County Spiketacular. Wilmington takes on Shippensburg University at 2:00 followed by a match with Salem International University at 6:00 PM.

WILDCATS GO 2-2 AT DUTCH COUNTY SPIKETACULAR
MILLERSVILLE, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington College battled hard this past weekend, going 2-2 at the Dutch County Spiketacular tournament hosted by Millersville University.
On Friday, Wilmington took on Shippensburg University and Salem International University. The Wildcats fell to the Raiders of Shippensburg, 3-0 (25-30, 26-30, 15-30). Leading the way was junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire, who posted eight kills and 11 digs. Later in the day, the ‘Cats downed Salem International University, 3-0 with game scores of 30-17, 30-23, and 30-18. Wilmington was paced by senior middle hitter Julia Atkins who notched 13 kills and 7 aces. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill added eight digs and five aces, while senior setter Cheyann Gilroy chipped in with 29 assists, four kills, and nine digs.
Saturday saw much of the same for the Wildcats, as again they split a pair of matches. Wilmington blanked the University of the District of Columbia 3-0 (30-25, 30-26, 30-14). Junior middle Brittani Leathern led the way with 10 kills. Freshman Michelle Boyd added four aces and 14 digs, while classmate O’Neill also notched 14 digs. In their final match of the tournament, Wilmington fell to Adelphi University in three (20-30, 17-30, 21-30). Freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick recorded six kills and 11 digs, while O’Neill had 10 digs for the ‘Cats.
Following the tournament Wilmington stands at 3-6 overall on the season. The Wildcats are slated to return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the Le Moyne College Invitational. The Wildcats take on Adelphi University and the University of New Haven on Saturday, followed by Le Moyne College and UMass-Lowell on Sunday.

'CATS STRUGGLE AT LE MOYNE COLLEGE TOURNAMENT
SYRACUSE, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University went 0-4 at the Le Moyne College Invitational volleyball tournament this past weekend.
On Saturday, Wilmington took on Adelphi University and the University of New Haven, losing both matches by scores of 3-0. The Panthers of Adelphi defeated the 'Cats 30-21, 30-19, 30-19. Freshmen Brittany O’Neill and Meghan Frick led the way for Wilmington 19 and 18 digs, respectively. Later in the day, the Chargers of New Haven swept the Wildcats 30-18, 30-11, 30-19. Wilmington was again led by Frick who recorded 5 kills and 8 digs.
Saturday saw the Wildcats play a more together game, but unfortunately the results were still the same. Le Moyne College took the first match of the day, 3-1 (29-31, 30-27, 30-19, 30-28), as the Wilmington offense finally started to come alive. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire posted a double-double effort with 11 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Kate Brown notched 11 kills, while junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern posted 6 kills and eight solo blocks. Freshman Michelle Boyd added 7 kills and 23 digs, while classmates Meghan Frick had six kills and 26 digs, and Brittany O’Neill had a match-high 27 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy added 38 assists and 10 digs for the Wildcats. In their final match of the tournament, Wilmington fell to UMass-Lowell 3-0 (217-30, 24-30, 15-30). Brown picked up 7 kills while Gilroy recorded 20 assists and 9 digs in defeat.
Freshman Michelle Boyd was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance this weekend.
Following the tournament, Wilmington stands at 3-10 overall on the season. The Wildcats are slated to return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the cross-town rival Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC match beginning at 7:00 PM.

WILMINGTON SWEEPS GOLDEY-BEACOM, 3-0
WILMINGTON, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the host Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
Wilmington won by game scores of 30-26, 30-19, and 30-23. The Wildcats were led by junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire, who recorded a career and match-high 18 kills, to go along with 11 digs. Freshman opposite Kate Brown notched 12 kills, while classmate Michelle Boyd had 11 kills, seven digs, and hit .417 on the night. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy picked up 45 assits, 14 digs, and seven kills, while freshman libero Brittany O’Neill had 25 digs.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 2-0 in the CACC and 4-10 overall, while Goldey-Beacom dropped to 0-1 in the conference and 1-9 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Thursday afternoon when they play host to the Lions of Georgian Court University in a CACC match at 7:00 PM.

WILDCATS SWEPT BY GEORGIAN COURT
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Gymnasium.
Georgian Court took games one and two by a score of 30-23, and put the Wildcats away with a 30-26 mark in game three to complete the sweep.
Wilmington was led by freshman opposite Kate Brown, who posted eight kills. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire added six kills and 13 digs, while senior setter Cheyann Gilroy notched 24 assists and seven digs. Freshman Michelle Boyd had five kills and 17 digs, and classmate Brittany O’Neill stood out defensively, recording a match-high 25 digs from the libero position.
Georgian Court was paced by Ann Casado’s triple-double effort of 13 kills, 14 assists, and 10 service aces. Lisamary Figueroa added 14 assists and 17 digs, while Rebecca Walker chipped in with 17 digs.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 2-1 in the CACC and 4-11 overall, while Georgian Court improved to 4-0 in the conference and 8-4 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Golden Rams of West Chester University at 1:00 PM.

WILDCATS FALL TO WEST CHESTER
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the visiting Golden Rams of West Chester University, 3-1 in women’s volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington took game one by a score of 30-28, but dropped the next three games, 22-30, 21-30, and 12-30, as West Chester rebounded to come away with the victory.
The Wildcats were led by freshman Meghan Frick, who posted nine, kills, 15 digs, and five aces. Classmate Brittany O’Neill recorded 20 digs, while junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern added seven kills and seven blocks.
West Chester was paced by Kristen Decker’s 20 kill and 23 dig performance. Michelle Powers added 17 kills, while Lacie Becher chipped in with 10 kills and five blocks.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 4-12 on the season while West Chester improved to 16-2 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in a CACC match beginning at 7:00 PM.

LADY WILDCATS SWEEP CHESTNUT HILL
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Tuesday afternoon at Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington rolled during the first two games, winning the first game 30-11 and taking the second 30-12. Chestnut Hill rallied late, but still came up short, and the Wildcats took the decisive game three, 30-22.
The Wildcats were led by freshman middle hitter Michelle Boyd, who recorded eight kills and 12 digs, while hitting an astounding .700 for the match. Classmate Meghan Frick, an outside hitter, notched seven kills, nine digs, and six aces in a solid all-around effort. Junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern added six kills and three blocks, while senior setter Cheyann Gilroy chipped in with 27 assists.
The Griffins were led by Marrianne Finfrock’s seven kills. Krystina Sissick added nine digs, while Lisa Doria had eight digs for the visitors.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 3-1 in the CACC and 5-12 overall, while Chestnut Hill dropped to 0-5 in the conference and on the season. WILDCATS FALL TO USP, 3-0
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University struggled in a 3-0 loss to the host Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. USP swept the ‘Cats in three games, by scores of 30-25. 30-24, and 30-27.
Wilmington was led by senior middle hitter Julia Atkins, who posted six kills and three blocks. Freshman Michelle Boyd added five kills and nine digs, while classmate Meghan Frick added a team-high 15 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had 27 assists and 12 digs, and freshman libero Brittany O’Neill had 10 digs for the Wildcats.
The Devils were led by Lindsey Wenderoth, who notched 15 kills and eight digs. Chrstine Puschak and Andrea Cardine each added nine kills, while libero Claire Tauschek recorded 27 digs.

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Gymnasium.
Philadelphia took game one by a score of 30-21, but Wilmington evened things out in game two, winning by a 33-31 margin. The Rams took the next two games, 30-25 and 30-26 to come away with the important conference victory.
The Wildcats were led by freshman opposite Kate Brown, who notched a career high 18 kills, hitting .371 on the night. Classmate Michelle Boyd added a double-double, picking up 13 kills and a team-high 28 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy chipped in with 47 assists and five blocks, while junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern had eight kills and nine blocks. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill had 26 digs, while classmate Meghan Frick had 19.
The Rams were led by Emily Krauss, who posted a match-high 19 kills and 30 digs. Lindsey Butler added 18 kills, while Celena Rednon had 16 kills and 18 digs. Nicole Berkstresser chipped in with 11 kills, while setter Lauren Hoover added 59 assists and 13 digs. Libero Cassandra Peck posted 33 digs for Philadelphia.
Following the match, Wilmington dropped to 3-3 in the CACC and 5-14 overall, while Philadelphia improved to 6-1 in the conference and 12-10 on the season. WILDCATS EDGED BY NYACK, 3-2
NYACK, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the host Warriors of Nyack College, 3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Bowman Center.
Wilmington took the first game by a score of 30-24, and Nyack took the next two games, 30-27 and 30-26. The Wildcats won game four 30-25, but the Warriors came out hot and won the decisive game five, 15-10.
Wilmington was led by freshman opposite Kate Brown, who posted eight kills. Junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern added seven kills and six blocks, while freshman libero Brittany O’Neill added 24 digs. Classmate Michelle Boyd posted five kills and 21 digs, while fellow frosh Meghan Frick added five kills and 17 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had 28 assists and 15 digs for the Wildcats.
Nyack was led by Wendy Paige, who notched 19 kills and seven digs. Taneisha Cantave added 15 kills, while Lacey McCabe had eight kills and 12 digs. Colleen Weidman had 24 digs, and setter Tara Leegwater recorded 42 assists and 17 digs for the Warriors.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 3-4 in the CACC and 5-15 overall, while Nyack improved to 5-3 in the conference and 6-8 on the season.

WIMINGTON DOWNS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT, 3-1
NYACK, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University defeated the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 3-1 in their second game of a tri-match at Nyack College’s Bowman Center.
Wilmington won the first two games by scores of 30-21 and 31-29, but the Owls rallied to take game three by 30-24. The Wildcats pulled things together and took game four, 30-26 to come away with the non-conference victory.
Wilmington was led by junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern, who posted 14 kills and three blocks. Freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick added 10 kills, 15 digs, and four aces in a solid all-around effort. Classmate Kate Brown added eight kills while sophomore middle hitter Katie Mason chipped in with seven kills and four blocks. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire added six kills and a match-high 23 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had 36 assists and nine digs for the Wildcats.
Southern Connecticut State was led by Maria Arenas, who notched 12 kills and 21 digs. Tara Bregensir added 12 kills, while Manjit Chase had 26 assists and 13 digs. Nekane Mendizabal chipped in with seven kills and 16 digs, and Ashley Cooms had 15 assists and 12 digs for the Owls.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 6-15 overall, while Southern Connecticut State dropped to 9-16 on the season. The Wildcats return to the court on Tuesday evening, when they travel to take on the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College for a CACC match beginning at 7:00 PM.

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Chestnut Hill women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-10, 30-9, 30-6) to Wilmington University in this evening’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. Senior setter Caitlin Rickey and junior outside hitter Marianne Finfrock led the Griffins combining for nine kills, seven assists, and 16 digs.
Wilmington University (7-15, 4-4) hit .341 as team with senior setter Cheyann Gilroy piloting the offense. Gilroy set 25 assists, while killing five points and making eight digs for the Wildcats. Benefiting from the direction of Gilroy, senior middle hitter Julia Atkins totaled eight kills in only two games on the court. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill spotted seven aces and made five digs. Defensively, the Wildcats were led by senior libero Shannon Freel, who made eight digs, and junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern, who posted four blocks.
Chestnut Hill College (0-11, 0-11) received eight digs apiece from Rickey and Finfrock. Offensively, Rickey directed five assists and made three kills, as Finfrock struck six kills and set two assists. Freshman middle hitter Nicole Corrado also made two assists while making two kills and totaling seven digs.

WILMINGTON FALLS SHORT AGAINST RAMS
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Rams of Philadelphia University, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Gallagher Center.
Philadelphia took the first two games by a score of 30-19, and Wilmington rebounded to avoid the sweep with a 30-25 victory in game three. The Rams sealed the deal with a close 30-27 win in game four.
Wilmington was led by freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick, who recorded 13 kills and 15 digs. Senior middle hitter Julia Atkins added 13 kills, while junior middle Brittani Leathern chipped in with 11 kills. Freshman Brittany O’Neill had 20 digs while senior Shannon Freel added 18 for the ‘Cats. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy totaled 43 assists and 12 digs.
The Rams were led by Emily Krauss, who posted 19 kills and 20 digs. Lindsey Butler added 11 kills, and Cassandra Peck chipped in with 22 digs. Nicole Berkstresser had nine kills and Cindy Adams recorded six kills and 18 digs for Philadelphia. Setter Lauren Adams notched four kills, nine digs, and 43 assists.

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Gymnasium. Wilmington won the three games by scores of 30-15, 30-24, and 31-29.
Sophomore middle hitter Katie Mason led the Wildcats attack with nine kills. Freshman Meghan Frick posted a match-high 28 digs and five aces, while senior middle Julia Atkins had six kills and three blocks. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy added 30 assists and 6 digs for Wilmington.
Dominican was led by Kinikia Collier who notched 11 kills and 14 digs. Theresa Hanneman added seven kills, and Kaitlin Earl chipped in with 12 assists and 12 digs. Antoinette Hackett recorded a team-high 20 digs for the Chargers.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 5-5 in the CACC and 8-16 overall, while Dominican dropped to 3-8 in the conference and 3-11 on the season. WILMINGTON HOLDS OFF USP FOR KEY CONFERENCE WIN
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University held off the Devils of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for a 3-1 win in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington won game one by a score of 30-27, but the Devils rallied to take game two by a 30-24 margin. The Wildcats regrouped and took the next to games, 30-17 and 31-29 to come away with a pivotal conference victory.
Leading the way for the Wildcats, was freshman Meghan Frick, who recorded 12 kills, 19 digs, and three service aces. Freshman Kate Brown added a team-high 13 kills and four blocks, while hitting an astounding .407 on the night. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire chipped in with five kills and 19 digs, while senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had 41 assists and eight digs. The middle hitter combination of senior Julia Atkins and junior Brittani Leathern, were a force on the net, as each posted six kills. Atkins added four blocks while Leathern notched six. Freshman libero Brittany O’Neill chipped in with 19 digs for the Wildcats.
USP was led by Lindsey Wenderoth’s 14 kills and 21 dig performance. Andrea Cardine also posted 14 kills and added 17 digs. Cady Rich had 11 kills while Christine Puschak had 10 kills. Libero Claire Tauschek chipped in with a match-high 24 digs for the Devils.
With the win, Wilmington improved to 6-5 in the CACC and 9-16 overall, while USP dropped to 5-6 in the conference and 11-13 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to take on the Eagles of Post University and the Skyhawks of Stonehill University in tri-match action in Connecticut.

WILDCATS SWEEP POST
WATERBURY, CT -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the host Eagles of Post University, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

WILMINGTON FALLS TO STONEHILL IN THREE
WATERBURY, CT -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the Skyhawks of Stonehill Univeristy 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center on the campus of Post University.
Stonehill won the three games by scores of 30-20, 30-25, and 34-32. The Wildcats were led by freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick, who posted a team-high 11 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Katie Mason added seven kills, while freshman Michelle Boyd added eight digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy chipped in with 36 assists for the ‘Cats.
Stonehill was paced by Katherine Masson’s 16 kills. Justine Thompason added 11 kills and 11 digs, while Erin Johnson had 11 kills. Setter Andrea Wirth chipped in with 45 digs and 11 digs for the Skyhawks.

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University swept the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening in the Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington won game one by a 30-23 margin, took game two by a convincing 30-16 score, and completed the three game sweep with a 30-22 win in the final game.
The Wildcats were led by senior middle hitter Julia Atkins, who posted 10 kills and four blocks, while hitting an astounding .692 for the match. Junior middle hitter Brittani Leathern added seven kills and five blocks, while freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick continued her solid play with a six kill, 17 dig, four ace performance. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy paced the Wildcat attack with six kills and 30 assists.
Goldey-Beacom was paced by Kendra Russell’s match-high 11 kills. Chantal Pierre added eight kills, while libero Christine Hudock chipped in with 14 digs. Setter Danielle Hicks had six kills and 21 assists for the Lightning.

Holy Family took game one by a score of 30-27, followed it up with a 30-25 win in game two, and completed the three game sweep with a 30-26 victory in game three.
Wilmington was led by freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick who posted six kills and a match-high 27 digs. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire added six kills and 16 digs, while Brittany O’Neill had 14 digs. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had five kills, 24 assists, and 10 digs for a double-double effort. Senior middle hitter Julia Atkins notched five kills and four blocks, while her junior counterpart Brittani Leathern chipped in with four kills and six blocks for the Wildcats.
Holy Family had three players with double-digit kills, led by Lauren Gosnell’s 13 kill, nine dig effort. NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University dropped a crucial match to the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington took game one by a score of 30-22, but the Deacons rallied to take the next three, 32-30, 30-28, and 30-28.
The Wildcats were led by freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick, who posted 10 kills and a match-high 30 digs for a double-double effort. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire also added 10 kills to go along with 21 digs, while senior Shannon Freel chipped in with 16 digs. Freshman opposite Kate Brown notched 10 kills, while hitting at a .450 clip. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy added 40 assists and 13 digs, and freshman libero Brittany O’Neill had 25 digs for Wilmington.

LAKEWOOD, NJ -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Lions of Georgian Court University, 3-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening at the Casino.
Georgian Court took games one and two by a score of 30-25, and put the Wildcats away with a 30-27 mark in game three to complete the sweep.
Wilmington was led by freshman opposite Kate Brown, who posted twelve kills. Freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick added four kills, three aces, and eleven digs, while senior setter Cheyann Gilroy notched 27 assists and six digs. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire had four kills and 10 digs, and freshman Brittany O’Neill stood out defensively, recording a team-high 21 digs from the libero position.
Georgian Court was paced by Ann Casado’s 11 kills and 16 digs. Jenelle Murdock added 11 kills and nine digs, while Stephanie Rivera had eight kills and 10 digs. Crystal Murdock added seven kills and four blocks, while Lisamary Figueroa chipped in with 27 assists. Libero Rebecca Walczak recorded a match-high 24 digs for the Lions.
Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 9-8 in the CACC and 12-20 overall, while Georgian Court improved to 18-0 in the conference and 27-8 on the season. The Wildcats play their final regular season game on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Golden Falcons of Felician College at 12:00 PM. If the Wildcats defeat Felician, they would qualify for the CACC playoffs as the South Division’s number four seed.

WILDCATS END SEASON WITH 3-2 LOSS TO FELICIAN
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University closed the books on their 2007 season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the Golden Falcons of Felician College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Gymnasium.
Wilmington won game one by a score of 30-22, but the Golden Falcons rebounded to take the second game by the same score. The Wildcats won game three easily, 30-17, but again Felician rallied to take the fourth game, 30-26. The Golden Falcons clinched their school’s first playoff berth with a 16-14 win in game five, and knocked the Wildcats out of the post-season.
The Wildcats were led by freshman outside hitter Meghan Frick, who notched 10 kills, 17 digs, and seven aces. Senior middle hitter Julia Atkins added a team-high 12 kills and eight blocks. Junior outside hitter Kristie Shropshire chipped in with 11 kills and seven digs, while classmate Brittani Leathern also added 11 kills and three blocks. Senior setter Cheyann Gilroy had six kills, 48 assists, and 19 digs.
Felician was paced by Keisha Milstrey’s 27 kills and four blocks. Dee Dee Smith added 22 kills, while Laura Peskosky chipped in with 10 kills, seven digs, and six blocks. Setter Nicole Degenhardt notched a match-high 55 asssits along with eight digs, while libero Erica Moore recorded 29 digs.
Prior to the game, Wilmington honored their three seniors: Julia Atkins, Shannon Freel, and Cheyann Gilroy.
With the loss, Wilmington ended their season at 9-9 in the CACC and 12-21 overall, while Felician improved to 6-11 in the conference and 6-22 on the season.
