3/5/2008 – Howard University

WILDCATS UPEND DIVISION I HOWARD UNIVERSITY, 15-14

WASHINGTON, DC -- Howard outscored Wilmington 8-6 in the second half but fell just short of a comeback and dropped a 15-14 decision to the Wildcats Wednesday afternoon at Greene Stadium.

HU (0-3) trailed 9-6 at the break before Alanah Webb and Ashley Lawrence scored two quick goals for the Bison, closing Howard to within one goal of the lead and forcing a Wilmington timeout. The two teams traded goals over the next few possessions with Howard tying things up on a Lauren Rivers goal with just under five minutes left in regulation. Katelyn Gibas scored the game winning goal for the Wildcats at the two minute mark and the Wildcats would hold on to edge the Lady Bison for its first win of the season.

Candice Bouknight picked up five goals for HU while Sakita Holley and Alanah Webb added three goals each. Rivers finished with two goals and Lawrence added one.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 1-0 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host the Chargers of Dominican College at 1:00 PM.

3/9/2008 – DOMINICAN COLLEGE

WILMINGTON LACROSSE DOMINATES DOMINICAN IN HOME OPENER

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University shut out the visiting Chargers of Dominican College, 16-0 in the women’s lacrosse home opener Sunday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Wilmington opened the game scoring four goals in the first six minutes of play. The Wildcats finished the half with an 8-0 lead and did not look back, equaling their goals in the second half as they cruised to the 16-0 shut out victory.

Sophomore Amanda Jenkins led the Wildcat attack, netting five goals, while senior Colby Bugda and junior Kelly Wojciechowski each added a hat trick. Bugda chipped in with three assists and Wojciechowski helped out with two assists. Sophomore Amber Harmon had a pair of goals and an assist, while freshman Danielle Niccoli and senior Amy Waggoner rounded off the scoring with a goal a piece. Waggoner also had three assists in the game.

Dominican keeper Lindsey Grundfast recorded 18 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Senior Catie Smith (1-0) picked up the win, as she recorded nine saves in the first half before giving way to sophomore Amber Smith in the second half. Amber Smith helped keep the shut out alive with seven saves for the Wildcats.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 2-0 overall, while Dominican drops to 0-2 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College at 3:00 PM at the Kirkwood Complex

3/12/2008 – CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

LADY WILDCATS EDGE GRIFFINS, 14-11

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University edged the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 14-11 in women’s lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Chestnut Hill opened the game bet netting the first three goals, but the Wildcats battled back and entered the half holding a 6-5 lead. The Griffins tied the game early in the second half, and eventually took the lead with 23:43 left in the game, but three straight goals from ‘Cats gave the hosts the advantage. Chestnut Hill came within two (13-11) with just over three minutes remaining, but the Wildcat defense held tight and preserved the win.

Sophomore Amanda Jenkins led the attack for the Wildcats netting six goals, while senior Colby Bugda added three goals and two assists. Junior Kelly Wojciechowski and freshman Samantha Jewell each had two goals and an assist, while junior Katelyn Gibas rounded off the scoring with a goal.

Katie Donavon led the Griffins with seven goals, while Carley Glass, Tiffanie Stanton, and Maryanne Glass each added a goal for Chestnut Hill.

Senior goalkeeper Catie Smith (2-0) picked up the win for the Lady Wildcats, as she recorded 12 saves in net. Stephanie Jordan took the loss for Chestnut Hill, and had a busy afternoon in goal, notching 28 saves. Wilmington out-shot the Griffins by a 49-27 margin.

With the win, Wilmington improved their record to 3-0 overall, while Chestnut Hill dropped to 1-2 on the season. The Lady Wildcats return to action on Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to Trinity University to take on the Tigers in a 3:00 PM game.

3/18/2008 – Trinity University

WILMINGTON BLANKS TIGERS, 15-0

NEWCASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University’s Lady Wildcat lacrosse team shut out Trinity University Tuesday evening by a score of 15-0. With the win, the Wildcats improve their record to 4-0 overall, while the Tigers drop to 0-3 overall.

Wilmington scored twelve goals in the first period, the most goals in a period for the Lady Wildcats this season. Eight of those goals came in the first 12 minutes of the half. The Wildcats ended the first half with a 12-0 lead and went on to get the shut-out victory by a score of 15-0.

Freshman Amber Harmon and junior Kelly Wojciechowski each had a hat trick for the Lady Wildcats as they led the scoring charge. Senior captain Colby Bugda and freshman Danielle Niccoli both added two goals, while Bugda also had four assists in the game. Junior Katelyn Gibas and junior Krissy Sfetsas both chipped in with a goal and an assist, while senior Amanda Beasley and sophomore Britany Shaner rounded off the offensive attack for Wilmington.

Jamie Lepak had 12 saves for the Lady Tigers, and Alicia McNeill registered Trinity’s only two shots on goal.

Amber Smith (1-0) played all 60:00 minutes in goal to pick up the win for Wilmington. Jamie Lepak and Helen Cisneros shared time in goal for Trinity, as Lepak took the loss.

The Lady Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Lady Lions of Molloy College for 3:00 PM game.

3/19/2008 – Molloy College

WILDCATS FALL TO MOLLOY, 18-4

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University suffered their first loss of the season, an 18-4 decision against the host Lions of Molloy College on Wednesday afternoon.

Molloy scored nine goals over the first 18 minutes of the game, and held Wilmington scoreless during that span. The Lions went into the break holding a 13-2 lead, and easily cruised in the second half to the 18-4 win.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Amanda Jenkins, who notched a hat trick. Junior Katelyn Gibas added a goal, while senior Colby Bugda record a pair of assists.

Mollow was led by Kristin Lang, Hayley Lacey, Kristina Wargo, and Rebecca LaFlare, as the foursome each picked up a hat trick on the afternoon.

Catie Smith (3-1) took the loss in net for Wilmington, as the senior recorded eight saves on 21 shots faced. Amber Smith recorded six saves in the second half for the ‘Cats. Alicia Frisch picked up the win for Molloy, notching one save during the first half. She was relieved in the second half by Jackie Bove, who had five saves for the Lions.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 4-1 on the season, while Molloy improved to 3-1 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to the Lions of Georgian Court University at 3:00 PM.

3/26/2008 – GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

WILMINGTON FALLS TO GEORGIAN COURT, 18-5

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wilmington University Lady Wildcats lost Wednesday afternoon to the visiting Lady Lions of Georgian Court University, by a score of 18-5. With the loss, Wilmington drops to 4-2 on the season, while the Lions of improve to 3-2 overall.

Wilmington came out of the gate strong scoring their first goal less than one minute into the game. Georgian Court responded with three unanswered goals before Wilmington put their second in the back of the net. The ‘Cats went into halftime down by seven goals, and could never recover as the Lions cruised to the 18-5 victory.

Sophomore Jillian Hadfield led Georgian Court with three goals and seven assists, while sophomore Ryan McGraff had a game-high five goals and two assists. Sophomores Allison Abbate and Christine Flaherty, along with freshman Lauren Conaty each netted a pair of goals for the Lions.

Wilmington was led in scoring by senior Colby Bugda and sophomore Amanda Jenkins, as each tallied two goals, while Jenkins also helped out with an assist. Freshman Danielle Niccoli added a goal and two assists for the Lady Wildcats.

Senior goalkeeper Catie Smith (3-2) took the loss for the Lady Wildcats, recording 24 saves in net. Sophomore Christine Latteri notched 17 saves for the Lions as she picked up the win.

Wilmington returns to action on Saturday, March 29th, when they face-off against the Lady Rams of Philadelphia University. Game time is set for 12:00 PM.

3/29/2008 – PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

WILDCATS DOWNED BY PHILADELPHIA, 18-7

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were downed by the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University, 18-7 in women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Wilmington jumped on the board first, as senior Colby Bugda scored an unassisted goal during the first few minutes, but the Rams rallied to net three unanswered goals and take the 3-1 lead. After another Wildcats’ goal by sophomore Amanda Jenkins, Philadelphia responded with four more unanswered goals to go up 7-2. The visitors would scored four more times before the first half ended, and went into the break holding a comfortable 11-4 advantage. That would be all the Rams would need, as they cruised down the stretch to the 18-7 victory.

The Wildcats were led by Bugda, who netted four goals and an assist. Junior Katelyn Gibas added two goals, while Jenkins and freshman Amber Harmon each tallied one goal.

Philadelphia was paced by Maggie Bornhost and Shannon Shippey who each netted four goals. Marissa Wisniewski and Jackie Reilly each added a pair of goals, while Wisniewski chipped in with three assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Smith suffered the loss for the Wildcats, notching 27 saves in goal. Kelly Staerk picked up the win for Philadelphia, recording 16 saves.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 4-3 overall, while the Rams improved to 2-1 on the season. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday afternoon, when they play host to the Colonels of Wilkes University at 3:00 PM.

4/5/2008 – Kutztown University

WILMINGTON DOWNS KUTZTOWN, 17-8

KUTZTOWN, PA -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University improved their overall record to 5-3 Saturday afternoon after defeating the Golden Bears of Kutztown University, 17-8 on the Bears’ home field. With the loss Kutztown record drops to 1-6 overall.

The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead, but with 14:52 left in the first half the Golden Bears scored two unanswered goals and brought the score to 4-3. Wilmington tallied nine straight goals, netting four unanswered to end the first half and then five goals in the first 3 minutes and a half minutes to start the second period. The Wildcats cruised down the stretch, as they went on to win by a score of 17-8.

Sophomore Amanda Jenkins led the offensive attack for Wilmington as she scored five goals on 11 shots, and also added an assist in the game. Senior captain Colby Bugda had a hat trick and three assists to help out the ‘Cats, while junior Kelly Wojciechowski, freshman Chelsea Genco, and freshman Amber Harmon each added two goals for Wilmington. Freshman Samantha Jewell, sophomore Britany Shaner, and senior Melissa Samio rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats.

Senior Liz Lawrence and sophomore Jennifer Natalini led the Golden Bears with two goals apiece, while sophomore Carrie Healey assisted on all three first-half goals and added a fourth in the second half.

Senior captain Catie Smith took the win for Wilmington University making 13 saves in 60 minutes in the net. Sophomore Alyson Iovacchini got the loss for the Golden Bears allowing 17 goals in 60 minutes in the net.

The Lady Wildcats are next in women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon, when they travel to Chestnut Hill to take on the Griffins at 4:00 PM.

4/7/2008 – Chestnut Hill College

WILDCATS STRONG START PROPELS THEM TON 15-10 WIN OVER CHESTNUT HILL

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA -- The Wilmington University Lady Wildcats came out of the gates ready to play Monday afternoon, cruising to a 15-10 victory over Chestnut Hill College. With the win the Lady Wildcats improved their record to 6-3 on the season while the Griffins fell to 2-9 overall.

Wilmington opened the game scoring the first seven goals in the contest. The Griffins recorded the final three goals of the first half, and entered halftime down by five (8-3). Chestnut Hill would not get any closer then five for the rest of the game, as the Lady Wildcats scored the first two goals of the second half and went on to win by a score of 15-10.

Sophomore Amanda Jenkins led the offensive attack for the Lady Wildcats scoring five goals on seven shots and adding two assists in the contest. Junior Kelly Wojciechowski added four goals and one assist, while senior Colby Bugda had three goals and four assists on the day. Freshman Danielle Niccoli chipped in with a goal and two assists while senior Amanda Beasley and junior Katelyn Gibas each had one goal and one assist for Wilmington. Amber Harmon caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls to lead the Lady Wildcats defense.

Junior Katie Donovan led the Griffins with three goals and three assists, while sophomore Maryanne Glass added three goals for Chestnut Hill.

Senior Amber Smith (2-1) picked up the win for Wilmington making 12 saves, six in the first half and six in the second half, while allowing 10 goals in 60 minutes in the net. Stephanie Jordan picked up the loss allowing 15 goals for the Griffins.

Wilmington returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to Dominican College to take on the Chargers in a 3:00 PM game.

4/9/2008 – Dominican College

WILMINGTON RALLIES TO DOWN DOMINICAN, 18-12

SUFFERN, NY -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University rallied to defeat the host Chargers of Dominican College, 18-12 in women’s lacrosse action at the Torne Valley Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Wilmington improved their record to 7-3, while Dominican dropped to 1-8 on the season.

The Lady Chargers jumped out on top early, as Silje Karlsen netted a goal just 1:10 into the game. The Lady Wildcats tied it 28 seconds later on a goal from freshman Amber Harmon off an assist by junior Kelly Wojciechowski. Karlsen answered back for the Lady Chargers going on a 3-0 run by herself to put Dominican up 4-1 early in the contest. After a goal from senior Amy Waggoner and a free position shot from sophomore Britany Shaner, Wilmington closed the gap with 18:51 left in the first half. Dominican then ran off four unanswered goas, but the Wildcats closed out the last ten minutes of the first half with five goals, tying the game at eight heading into the break.

Karlsen started the Lady Chargers off in the second half scoring an unassisted goal at the 29:39 mark to put Dominican up 9-8. Wilmington then went on to dominate most of the second half, netting nine goals in the next nine minutes of play, giving the visitors a 17-9 lead. Dominican had a quick 3-0 run, but the Wildcats added one more goal with 8:46 left in the game to seal the 18-12 victory.

Freshmen Amber Harmon and Danielle Niccoli and junior Kelly Wojciechowski led the Wilmington offense, as all three netted a hat trick. Senior captain Colby Bugda and classmate Amy Waggoner each chipped in with four assists. Waggoner also added two goals and Bugda chipped in with a goal. Junior Katelyn Gibas and sophomore Amanda Jenkins each netted two goals in the contest, while freshman Samantha Jewell and sophomore Britany Shaner rounded off the scoring for the Wildcats with a goal apiece.

Karlsen led the Lady Chargers with a season-high seven goals. Junior Althea Chambers and sophomore Jen Olin added two goals for Dominican, while Sara Kiernan had the other goal.

Senior goalkeeper Catie Smith (5-2) picked up the win for the Wildcats, recording seven saves in net. Lindsey Grundfast took the loss for Dominican, notching 21 saves.

Wilmington returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to take on the Rams of Philadelphia University in a 1:00 PM game.

4/13/2008 – Philadelphia University

WILDCATS FALL TO PHILADELPHIA, 17-8

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Rams of Philadelphia University, 17-8 in women’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.

The Rams scored first, but Wilmington answered right back as senior Colby Bugda netted an unassisted goal. Philadelphia ran off four unanswered goals before sophomore Amanda Jenkins found the back of the net to make it 5-2. The hosts then scored five out of the next six goals, and went into the break holding a comfortable 10-3 advantage. Wilmington did find some offense throughout the second half, but it was too little too late, as the Rams cruised to the 17-8 victory.

The Wildcats were led by Colby Bugda and Amanda Jenkins, who each netted a hat trick. Junior Katelyn Gibas and freshman Chelsea Genco rounded out the scoring for Wilmington, while Gibas and freshman Danielle Niccoli each had an assist.

Philadelphia was led by Maggie Bornhorst and Brooke Woodland, who each tallied a hat trick, while Michelle O’Hanlon , Kathleen Maurer, and Danielle Cofforo each chipped in with a pair of goals.

Sophomore Amber Smith (2-2) suffered the loss in net for Wilmington, as she recorded ten saves. Kelly Staerk (6-2) picked up the win for Philadelphia, notching five saves before giving way to Katherine Sullivan, who stopped five shots for the Rams.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 7-4 on the season, while Philadelphia improved to 7-2 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to the Tigers of Trinity University at 3:00 PM.

4/16/2008 – TRINITY UNIVERSITY

WILMINGTON CRUISES PAST TRINITY, 18-1

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University cruised past the visiting Tigers of Trinity University, 18-1 in women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Wilmington scored the game’s first twelve goals and never looked back as they coasted down the stretch to the lopsided victory.

The Wildcat attack was led by senior Amy Waggoner who tallied a hat trick and three assists. Junior Kelly Wojciechowski added a pair of goals and three assists, and senior Colby Bugda chipped in with goal and three assists. Sophomore Amanda Jenkins and junior Krissy Sfetsas each netted a pair of goals, while Jenkins also chipped in with two assists.

Brenda Martinez scored Trinity’s lone goal, with the assist coming form Denise Maravilla.

Senior Catie Smith (6-2) recorded the win in goal for the Wildcats, notching three saves. Jamie Lepak took the loss for the Tigers, recording 19 saves.

With the win, Wilmington improved to 8-4 on the season, while Trinity dropped to 0-8 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Friday afternoon when they play host to the Colonels of Wilkes University at 3:00 PM.

4/20/2008 – SETON HILL COLLEGE (Senior Day)

WILDCATS EDGED BY SETON HILL

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University were edged by the visiting Griffins of Seton Hill University, 13-9 in women’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

Seton Hill jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, netting four goals in the game’s first twelve minutes of play. Wilmington answered with two quick goals of their own, to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Griffins ran off three of the next five to and entered halftime holding a 7-4 advantage.

Wilmington scored first in the second half, and got as close as one (8-9) midway through the period, but Seton Hill scored four of the next five to put the game out of reach.

Junior Kelly Wojciechowski and sophomore Amanda Jenkins led the Wildcat attack, as each netted a hat trick. Senior Colby Bugda added a pair of goals, while freshman Samantha Jewell rounded out the scoring for Wilmington.

Kate Worthington and Krista Ocilka proved to be too much for the Wildcats, as Worthington tallied six goals, and Ocilka added five of her own for the Griffins. Both also chipped in with a pair of assists. Ellen Einsporn netted a pair of goals, while Janettel Kristich added an assist for Seton Hill.

Senior goalkeeper Catie Smith (6-3) suffered the loss in net for Wilmington, recording 13 saves on 31 shots. Seton Hill’s Jillian Kowalewski was outstanding between the pipes, notching 33 saves on 48 shots.

Following the game, Wilmington dropped to 8-5 on the season, while Seton Hill improved to 4-10 overall. The Wildcats return to action on Monday afternoon when they play host to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 3:00 PM game.

4/21/2008 – ST. THOMAS AQUINAS COLLEGE

WILMINGTON EDGES ST. THOMAS AQUINAS, 14-13

NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University edged the visiting Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 14-13 in women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.

The game started off quickly for the ‘Cats as freshman Danielle Niccoli put the hosts on the board just over two minutes in. From there, it was back-and-forth action between the two teams, as both squads traded goals over the next four minutes. Wilmington then ran off three unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead, and entered the break holding an 8-5 advantage.

St. Thomas opened the scoring in the second half, cutting the lead to 8-6, but the two teams continued to trade goals before a Kelly Wojciechowski tally put the Wildcats up 12-8. The Spartans rallied scoring five of the next six to knot the game at 13. With just under a minute remaining, freshman Chelsea Genco scored the game-winning goal off an assist from senior Colby Bugda.

Colby Bugda led the Wildcat attack, netting four goals and adding five assists. Freshman Danielle Niccoli notched a hat trick, while junior Kelly Wojciechowski , sophomore Amanda Jenkins, and freshman Samantha Jewell each tallied two goals. Jewell and Wojciechowski also chipped in with two assists for Wilmington.

Kim DeLorenzo led St. Thomas Aquinas with four goals, while Jennifer Bruen added a hat trick. Aime Colon chipped in with a pair of goals, and Maryanne Kugler, Katelyn McDonagh, Maryanna Keary, and Kimberly Pinzon rounded out the scoring for the Spartans.

Sophomore Amber Smith (3-2) picked up the win in net for Wilmington, as she recorded 13 saves. Kailey Brown suffered the loss for St. Thomas Aquinas, recording 17 saves in relief of Jennifer Kugler, who notched four saves in the first half.

With the win, Wilmington improved to 9-5 on the season, while St. Thomas Aquinas dropped to 4-10 overall. The Wildcats close out the 2008 season on Wednesday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Lions of Georgian Court University in a 3:00 PM game.

WILDCATS END SEASON WITH 17-7 LOSS TO GEORGIAN COURT

LAKEWOOD, NJ -- The Wildcats of Wilmington University fell to the host Lions of Georgian Court University, 17-7 in women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Wildcats struck first, scoring the first goal in the first minute of the game and added another goal just one minute later, taking a quick 2-0 lead. Georgian Court responded with four unanswered goals, taking a 4-2 lead with 14:43 left in the first half. For the rest of the half, the action was back and forth, and the Lions headed into the break holding a slim 7-5 lead. In the second period it was all Georgian Court, as the hosts went on a 7-0 run, never looking back on their way to the 17-7 victory.

Allison Abbate led Georgian Court with two goals and three assists, while Ryan McGrath had four goals. Natalie Bermudez, Jillian Hadfield, and Laura Housel each had two goals for the Lions.

Senior Colby Bugda and freshman Danielle Niccoli, each had two goals and two assists leading the Wildcat attack. Freshman Samantha Jewell and Chelsea Genco each added one goal and one assists in the contest, while junior Kelly Wojciechowski rounded off the scoring with a goal.

Sophomore Amber Smith (3-3) had 13 saves in 60 minutes in the net as she picked up the loss, while Christine Latteri had eight saves against the Lady Wildcats.

With the win Georgian Court improves their record to 11-4 on the season while the Wilmington closes out the season with a 9-6 record.
