Wilmington University’s Pratt Student Center Goes Green for Earth Day Festivities

California-based band Big Tree makes campus stop as part of East Coast tour

Wilmington University will host a lively, pre-Earth Day celebration in the Pratt Student Center on the New Castle campus on Wednesday, April 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The festivities will feature a performance from the five-piece, California-based, indie pop/folk band, Big Tree.

The celebration, organized by the WilmU Green Team and the Department of Student Life will include popcorn and other refreshments along with games and green activities, some of which will offer small prizes.

Big Tree was first invited to play at the University in 2011 at a vegetable-oil-as-fuel demo. They were touring college campuses in their “green” van at the time.

In 2012, a music marketing company described Big Tree as “a band of massive sounds, funky danceable chords and hypnotic vocal harmonies.” Their stop at WilmU is part of an East Coast tour to promote their new, self-released album, Little EP, that also includes stops in Worcester, Massachusetts, Brooklyn, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band moved to Berkeley, California, from Brooklyn more than a year and a half ago and has since become part of the Bay area’s burgeoning music scene.
