Former Wilmington University President Featured in PBS / WHYY "Makers" Documentary Series
On Friday, April 12, Dr. Audrey K. Doberstein, who served as president of Wilmington University from 1979 to 2006, will be featured a documentary series about notable women who have had a lasting positive impact on their communities. The documentary will appear on Philadelphia's PBS station, WHYY (channel 12 on Comcast cable).
The documentary can be viewed on WHYY First! (check local listings for channel number) at 5:30 and 11:00 p.m. Friday, 11:00 a.m. Sunday and 5:30 p.m. Monday. It will be posted online at www.whyy.org on Monday morning, April 15.
The broadcast is a continuation of “Makers: Women Who Make America” (http://www.makers.com), a digital platform produced by PBS and AOL showcasing hundreds of compelling stories of trailblazing women who have made history and are shaping tomorrow. Dr. Doberstein is featured in a segment called "Delaware Makers."
An innovative educator and leader, Dr. Doberstein was the first and only female president of a four-year higher education institution in Delaware. Her vision for a small, up-and-coming college in New Castle, Delaware was enough to transform it into a thriving university with 13 locations throughout Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey and a student body of over 16,000.
Holding steadfast to Wilmington College's mission, Dr. Doberstein made it her personal goal to fight for more higher education opportunities for the "real" student: the one with a full-time job, a family or both. She mentored and encouraged women throughout the state to better themselves by successfully pursuing a college degree.
