DANA Announces Wilmington University Nonprofit Employee Scholarship Recipients

The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) has announced eleven nonprofit employees who were selected to receive Wilmington University course scholarships for the Fall 2013 semester. These scholarships were granted by Wilmington University specifically for Delaware's nonprofit employees.

As announced last February, Wilmington University and DANA partnered with the shared intent to strengthen the nonprofit sector by enabling the further education of its workforce. Those who were eligible to apply for the scholarships were required to be full-time employees in the nonprofit sector for at least one full year. The recipients will be able to apply their scholarships to classes within 44 undergraduate or 28 graduate program areas at Wilmington University.

The selected recipients are:

o   Richard Briden, employed by Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, Inc.

o   Tracey Brown, employed by The Ministry of Caring

o   Elizabeth Castillo, employed by Westside Family Healthcare

o   Louis Henderson, employed by Faithful Friends

o   Shaquilla Holmes, employed by Delaware Financial Literacy Institute

o   Jennifer Koester, employed by Communities in Schools Delaware

o   Sarah LaFave, employed by Jewish Family Services of Delaware, founder of Lori's Hands

o   Jennifer Marek, employed by Connecting Generations

o   Marco Ramos, employed by Latin American Community Center

o   Katina Scott, employed by Choices for Community Living

o   Marcia Wright-Soika, employed by YWCA

"We congratulate the eleven recipients for their hard work, and we're excited for this opportunity for advanced learning that will benefit them individually, and the sector as a whole," said Chris Grundner, President and CEO of DANA. "I thank President Varsalona and Wilmington University again for partnering with us to make this benefit possible."

“Nonprofit employees are some of the most selfless, compassionate people in our state,” added Dr. Varsalona. "This scholarship program is our way of thanking them for their service and giving them more tools to enhance their lives and careers."
