On Second Review, Wilmington University Cheerleading Team and Coed Partner Stunt Duo Crowned 2014 UCA National Champions

National Championships typically do not fall out of the sky. They require hard work, dedication, support, and all around good luck during competition day.

The Wilmington University cheerleading team did all those things to win a third straight national championship, and it finally paid off two weeks later.

After competing in the 2014 UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship from January 17-19 and finishing second in both the Small Coed Division II and Coed Partner Stunt Finals, the team received the unlikeliest of phone calls from UCA headquarters.

Due to a violation of guidelines for eligibility, Small Coed Division II team champion Columbus State University has been disqualified and forced to forfeit their Small Coed Division II National Championship and Coed Partner Stunt Championship.

As a result, the 2014 championship title and first place honors for Small Coed Division II has been awarded to Wilmington University, and the Coed Partner Stunt honors was awarded to the partner stunt couple from Wilmington University, Ariel Ellixson and David Bellew.

The new rankings results in the Wildcats earning their third consecutive Small Coed Division II National Championship. The top notch in the Coed Partner Stunt Finals is the highest ranking ever by a Wildcat duo and the first Stunt National Championship for Wilmington University.

Ellixson and Bellew beat out three partner groups from Sam Houston State University to earn a second place standing in the original results, and are now crowned as National Coed Partner Stunt Champions.
