Wilmington University Welcomes Danielle Bergez as ESL Adjunct Faculty Coordinator
New role will improve and enhance University's English as Second Language program.
Wilmington University welcomes Danielle Bergez as its new ESL (English as a Second Language) Adjunct Faculty Coordinator.
In her new role, Danielle will develop and promote language skills that translate to success for international and ESL students in University classes, especially in academic reading and writing. She will work on a part time basis with Dr. Matt Wilson, Chair of the First Year Experience (FYE) program and ESL, to improve and enhance the growing ESL program at Wilmington University. She will also facilitate faculty development opportunities and assist faculty with questions about educating non-native speakers of English.
With a bachelor’s degree in Russian from the University of Pittsburgh, and an M.S.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Danielle has taught ESL in a variety of programs. She has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Community College of Philadelphia, the University of Delaware and in community service organizations since 2000. She is also doing doctoral level coursework in educational linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. Her background in language acquisition from both the learner’s and the instructor’s perspective allows her to contribute to her academic field by teaching courses for students pursuing master’s degrees in TESOL and Intercultural Communication. She also advises students on their academic program and career plans.
To help identify faculty needs and with developing faculty development opportunities, Danielle will reach out to faculty and Program Chairs to inquire about areas of need in teaching non-native English speaking students.
