Registration for 2015 Cyber Quests Competition Extended to April 27

Previous years' top performers are invited back to summer Cyber Quest camps and competitions by U.S. Cyber Challenge.

The U.S. Cyber Challenge (USCC), a program of the Center for Internet Security (CIS), announces the 2015 Cyber Quests competition – an annual online contest for cyber security enthusiasts who will compete against their peers across the country for an invitation to one of several Cyber Camps being offered this summer.

To participate, individuals may register at http://USCC.CyberQuests.org. Registration closes on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 9:00 PM EDT and the Cyber Quests quiz closes on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:59 PM EDT.

This year, the Cyber Quests competition focuses on secure coding practices. Competition participants will be asked to spot security flaws in snippets of code, identify different types of vulnerabilities, determine how to fix specific vulnerabilities, etc., using examples from PHP, Java and C#. The quiz consists of 30 multiple-choice questions and participants will have 24 hours to complete the competition.

Winners will be determined based on who achieves the highest score in the shortest amount of time.

On the basis of their performance, winners of Cyber Quests who are 18 years or older and United States citizens will then be eligible to receive an invitation to one of the week-long Cyber Camps being offered across the country in June and July. State-specific camps are being offered in Delaware and Illinois with regional camps in Virginia and Utah.

The camps will feature one week of specialized sessions by college faculty, SANS Institute senior instructors and cyber security experts, capped off by a live competition and awards ceremony on the final day. In addition to providing expert training for participants to improve their skills and marketability, students at the Cyber Camps will have the opportunity to engage with major technology companies and government agencies at onsite job fairs for scholarship, internship and employment opportunities.

U.S. Cyber Challenge is supported in part through sponsorships by iSight Partners, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Federal CIO Council, Avue Technologies, Department of Homeland Security, SANS Institute, Workday, CenturyLink, Cyber Ninjas, VMD Systems, NIC Inc., (ISC)2, HP, Amazon Web Services and Monster Government Solutions.
