Wildcat "Bike to the Bay" Team is Forming for Wilmington University's 8th Annual Ride to Rehoboth Beach

150-mile bike ride supports research funding for multiple sclerosis.

For the eighth year in a row, Wilmington University staff, faculty and friends will come together as the 2015 Wildcats MS Bike to the Bay team supporting research for a cure for multiple sclerosis. This year's charity ride is Saturday, September 26 through Sunday, September 27. The starting line is at  Delaware Technical Community College (DelTech) Terry Campus once again, at 100 Campus Drive in Dover. The finish line is located at The Towers at Delaware Seashore State Park, 38036 Towers Road in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The two-day cycling event is a 150-mile cycling adventure through southern Delaware and it is open to cyclists 12 years and older. Registration is open now with a cost of $65 per participant. The registration fee will go up to $75 per rider on August 28.

Novice and experienced riders are welcome and encouraged to participate. Riders are fully supported with catered rest stops, bike mechanics, full meals and support vehicles. Cyclists enjoy mostly flat terrain through southern Delaware's quaint small towns. The finish line at Rehoboth Beach greets all riders with music, free massages, great food and fun. First time riders will also receive a team jersey.

Wilmington University Wildcats teams have raised tens of thousands of dollars over the past eight years to aid research to cure MS. “The University has a great tradition of supporting this cause," said Dr. Eileen Donnelly, Assistant Vice President, Dean of the College of Online and Experiential Learning, and Wildcats team captain. "Bike to the Bay is a great way for all of our colleagues and friends to do something healthy while supporting a wonderful cause. First-time and experienced riders enjoy a sense of real accomplishment and camaraderie that lasts long after we arrive at the beach.”

MS is a chronic, progressive and debilitating disease that attacks the human neurological system. Symptoms include numbness in the limbs and torso, vision loss, fatigue, pain and paralysis.

Affecting more than 400,000 Americans each year, there is currently no cure for MS. Research continues to find new treatments that help patients with the disease go into remission, treat its debilitating symptoms and retard its inevitable progression.
