Wilmington University Athletics are Winning on the National Stage

Wilmington University is known for many amazing things.  For example, it is a known fact that we have amazing students, who are taught by amazing instructors, who then graduate and become amazing alumni.  What a person might not realize however, is that we have some amazing athletes that are representing WilmU on the National stage.  Check out what is happening in the wonderful world of WilmU Sports!

The golf team won their second ever NCAA Division 2 East/Atlantic Super Regional Tournament earlier this month.  The Wildcats then went on to attend the NCAA National Tournament for the fourth time in program history in Conover, North Carolina.  Wilmington finished 16th out of 20 teams, but first among teams in the East Region and second among teams in the East/Atlantic Super Region.

For the first time in school history, the baseball team competed in the NCAA Division 2 Baseball National Championships in Cary, North Carolina this past week.  The Wildcats lost against Catawba College (North Carolina) and Angela State University (Texas), but not after having played an outstanding game.  A freshman third baseman recorded an outstanding catch that was featured on ESPN Sports Center’s Top-10 (#8) later that evening.  The team participated in a NCAA Community Engagement Activity at the Durham Area Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club.  There, the team interacted with the children by playing kickball, football, basketball, ping pong, and video games.  They also signed autograph cards for the children and gave them NCAA wrist bands

And let’s not forget about our Cheerleaders!  For the fourth straight year, the Wilmington University Wildcat cheerleaders were named 2015 UCA Small Coed Division II National Champions at the College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL.

We are incredibly proud of all the accomplishments of our university, and we hold our head high as we declare to those around us; “I am a Wildcat!”
