Alumni Highlight: Todd DeCapua
Multifaceted Executive Excellence
Merriam-Webster defines a renaissance man as, “a person who has wide interests and is an expert in several areas”, and by this definition, Todd DeCapua is an archetype.
Todd graduated from University of Delaware in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Business and continued his education at Wilmington University, earning an MBA in Finance in 2007. When asked about his experience at WilmU, Todd shared that he greatly benefited from the real world experience of his instructors. He reflected on the fact that he learned the intricacies of the field from individuals that were not only theorists but actual practitioners. Todd also appreciated the convenience of the program, which allowed him to achieve his degree while continuing to build an impressive career.
Professionally, Mr. DeCapua delivers amazing results as a Senior Manager at Hewlett-Packard and Chief Technology Evangelist and Co-Founder of TechBeacon. TechBeacon is the “information hub for technologists and IT professionals seeking guidance to real business challenges”. Todd is uniquely suited to these demanding roles because his diverse experiences have placed him on all sides of the business equation. He has been a leader on all sides of the consultant-corporation-startup-vendor table, making him fully aware of the client’s needs and the nuances of complex business relationships. Because of Todd’s education, experience, and level of mastery he is in demand on a global scale as an advisor, strategist, author and keynote speaker.
While the demands of work have him frequently out of the country, Todd is intentional about finding opportunities to connect with other like-minded people here in his home state of Delaware. He is very serious about giving back to his community, and seeking to contribute to a rise of technology/ innovation/ venture capital in our local community.
As impressive as Todd's career is, it would be a mistake to paint him as one dimensional. When he is not navigating the land of a high-flying business and technology executive, he is busy exploring another type of wilderness. Todd is a passionate wildlife conservationist, who works in collaboration with state and local officials as well as several private land owners. The Division of Fish and Wildlife in the State of Delaware certified Todd as one of the few Delaware Master Hunters. This select group of volunteers are recognized as wildlife conservationists and receive this designation, only after completing a rigorous selection process and months of education and qualification.
There is one more area of Mr. DeCapua’s life that demands a large amount of time and attention. He would tell you this role is the most important, defining, and meaningful hat he wears. Todd is a devoted father to two lovely young ladies. Todd’s heart beats for his two daughters, and they get the best of Dad!
Todd DeCapua is a truly well-rounded individual, who is committed to excellence in all areas of his life. Wilmington University is proud to have played a part in his professional development. Todd is carrying the WilmU banner well, and we anxiously wait to see what he will do next.
