Wilmington University Speaker Series: Survivor Ji Seong-Ho Talks about his Impossible Escape from North Korea

One man's riveting story of a 6,000 mile escape from the oppression and starvation of his native country to freedom.

Wilmington University Speaker’s Series, in conjunction with External Affairs, has added a very special presentation to its Speaker Series line up.

On Monday, November 9, the University will present Ji Seong-Ho, a man who escaped the oppression of the North Korean regime as he tells the story of his 6,000 mile journey to freedom at 6:00 p.m. in the Doberstein Admission Center Auditorium on the New Castle Campus.

This event is free and open to the public. Parking on campus is free and no registration is required to attend.

The late addition of this talk to the Wilmington University Speaker Series will help students and the greater community to understand the conditions that exist within North Korea, the suffering and starvation Ji lived through and his determination in the face of leaving his family and everything he knew and loved behind in order to be a free man.

“I was in search of freedom," said Ji. "In more simple terms, I wanted to be treated as a human.”

Ji dragged himself 6,000 miles on crutches in a circuitous route away from North Korea to freedom. He will detail the living conditions and hunger that consumed his early years during the famine in the North. By the time he escaped in 2006, he knew that his survival was necessary in order to bring greater awareness of the oppression of North Korea's dictator, Kim Jong-Un, to the West. Today, Ji is in a position to help others who have escaped the suffering and torment of that regime.

This is an inspiring story you will not forget. For more information contact Katie Burke via email at kathryn.m.burke@wilmu.edu or call (302) 669-6611.
