Woman of Distinction Award Presented to Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon
The Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts honor the President for supporting future women leaders
Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon was honored with the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction Award at the 20th Woman of Distinction Celebration on March 28 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware.
Considered its signature fundraising event, Woman of Distinction honors local women leaders whose ethical leadership, professional accomplishments, and community contributions inspire people to make the world a better place. Proceeds from the annual event support the Girl Scouts’ leadership program, ensuring that all girls in local communities have the support, experiences, and opportunities they need to realize their potential.
Special guests included Delaware Attorney General Kathleen Jennings, who offered the welcome and served as an honorary co-chair. Wilmington University’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations Dr. Tina Barksdale offered remarks about Dr. Harmon, her longtime mentor; and Sharon Kelly Hake, president and CEO of Great Dames, Inc., shared her respect for Dr. Harmon, referring to her as a role model for all women. Christiana Care Health System President and CEO Dr. Janice Nevin also served an honorary co-chair.
“I have great respect for the Girl Scouts’ mission of building courage, confidence, and character in girls,” says Dr. Harmon. “Those are the traits they’ll need to succeed not just as professionals, but also as citizens who will make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
