Wilmington University President Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon was awarded the Women’s Leadership Award at the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce's 28th Annual Women’s Leadership Conference on Nov. 15, 2018, at the Chase Center at the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. 

The yearly conference provides a forum for women at all levels of business to network, find resources and discover business and educational opportunities. Following morning workshops, the Keynote and Awards Luncheon featured keynote speaker Ashley Biden, executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice, and the awards presentations. In addition to Dr. Harmon’s Women's Leadership Award, other accolades were given to Hook PR’s Patricia Rivera (Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year) and the Ministry of Caring’s Marilyn Monahan (Lifetime Achievement Award).  

“It was great to see so many talented, intelligent women gathered together to collaborate and support each other,” says Dr. Harmon. “The New Castle County Chamber Women’s Leadership Conference empowers women and provides an excellent forum to build productive business relationships. I was humbled to receive the Women's Leadership Award, but proud to stand among other awardees I respect.”

Jaimie Watts, events manager for the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, says her colleagues were thrilled to present the Women’s Leadership Award to Dr. Harmon. “She was nominated and chosen due to her character, her commitment to the community, and the example she sets for others,” says Watts. “She is a true inspiration, blazing the trail for the next generation of leaders.”
