Alumni Gather at 4th Annual Florida Reunion
Wilmington University held its 4th Annual Florida Reunion this month welcoming friends and alumni from the sunshine state. Fifty-three alumni and guests – the largest gathering to date – attended the reunion at the Seagate Hotel in Delray Beach, Florida. Alumni from many decades were present including some from the first graduating class (’72). University President, Dr. Jack Varsalona, expressed his gratitude to all the alumni for keeping in touch with their alma mater stating “no matter how long ago you graduated, you will always be a part of our family.”
Guests enjoyed delicious cuisine and danced into the night. Dr. Thomas B. Cupples, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement, informed guests of all the great achievements the University has accomplished in academics, athletics and within the community. Guests also learned of the 81 scholarships that were awarded last year to students thanks to the funds raised through the Green and White Scholarship Ball, the Scholarship Golf Classic and Annual Fund donations. Dr. Cupples thanked the scholarship donors for helping to “change peoples’ lives through the gift of education.”
Bonnie Sager (’73) had a great time at the reunion saying, “It turned out to be a nice evening.” She went on, “I have kept in touch with some of the 1972 and 1973 grads, and it is always fun to bring back so many fond memories.”
The next Florida reunion is planned for spring of 2013. Area alumni are encouraged to attend their local alumni chapter meetings, look out for upcoming reunions, or fill out an alumni update form.
