President and Former President Featured in Delaware Today’s 50th Anniversary Issue

Wilmington University president Dr. Jack P. Varsalona, and former president, Dr. Audrey K. Doberstein are featured in Delaware Today magazine's April 50th Anniversary issue. The two presidents are among other luminaries featured in 'The 50 Most Influential Delawareans of the Past 50 Years.'

According to Maria Hess, Delaware Today's Editor-in-Chief,  Dr. Varsalona and Dr. Doberstein were selected because they represent the past, present and future of Wilmington University.

Dr. Audrey K. Doberstein, President of Wilmington College (now Wilmington University) from 1979 to 2006, was the first and only female president of the four-year institution. Through her vision and leadership the college grew from a small up-and-coming college to a thriving university with locations across the state. She was instrumental in building programs and entire colleges from the ground up. In 2011 she was inducted in the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women.

Dr. Jack Varsalona became President of Wilmington University in 2006. His commitment to improving the lives of students in Delaware and beyond has thrust Wilmington University into the spotlight over the years. Thanks to his leadership, the University now has locations in three states, numerous online degrees, and programs ranging from associates to doctoral, including a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program.

In the magazine article, Dr. Doberstein and Dr. Varsalona credit each other for the success of the college, but they know, above all, it really came down to the students.  As Dr. Varsalona says: “None of this could be possible without a wonderful faculty, staff and alumni. But I am even more proud of the students who choose to attend Wilmington University; for it is their decision that ultimately attributes to our success.”
