Wilmington University Women’s Soccer Team earns NSCAA Academic Award for Second Straight Year

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced that the Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned the Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. This award recognizes teams who have posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The women’s soccer team posted a team GPA of 3.08 for the 2011-12 academic year.

This is the second year in a row that the team has received the NSCAA Team Academic Award. The Wildcats had a 3.14 team GPA for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Wildcats are coached by Josh Ruggiero and had their best season to date. They went 10-6-2 in the regular season, winning the CACC regular season. The Wildcats then went on to win the CACC Tournament for the first time in the history of the program, beating Philadelphia University 1-0. The Wildcats earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time, where they played last season’s National Champions, Saint Rose, for the first round of the tournament.

Wilmington University women’s soccer team is joined by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes Caldwell College, Georgian Court University, and Post University with receiving the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
