Wilmington University and DANA to Announce Nonprofit Employee Scholarships

Wilmington University will announce an exciting new course scholarship program for employees of the nonprofit sector, managed by the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA). The University will formally announce this partnership at a press conference at the Doberstein Admission Center Building auditorium on the New Castle County campus on Tuesday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m.

Speaking at the press conference will be Christopher Grundner, president and chief executive officer of DANA, Colleen Morrone, president and chief executive officer of Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County and Dr. Jack Varsalona, president of Wilmington University.

"DANA’s mission is to strengthen, enhance and advance nonprofits and the sector in Delaware, but we certainly can’t do it alone,” said Grundner. “Hard-working employees of nonprofits across the state are dedicated to impacting the lives of Delawareans every day. This program provides many of them with the opportunity for career-oriented education and advanced learning that will benefit them individually and the sector as a whole. On behalf of DANA, I thank President Varsalona and Wilmington University for partnering with us to make this benefit possible.”

The program will offer scholarships for 44 undergraduate programs and 28 graduate programs at Wilmington University to accepted applicants at no cost for tuition. Full-time employees in the nonprofit sector will be eligible to apply for the scholarships. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have at least one full year of service with a nonprofit organization and be currently employed with a Delaware-based nonprofit.

“Nonprofit employees are some of the most selfless, compassionate people in our state,” Varsalona added. “They work tirelessly, at times without reward or thanks. This scholarship program is our way of thanking them for their service and giving them tools to enhance their lives and their careers.”
