University shares the spotlight with the Philly 'burbs

A Perfect Backdrop for Alumni Connections

By Jaime Bender

Where is WilmU? With a wide array of online options and 13 campuses, some might say it’s just about everywhere.

The University ventured into somewhat uncharted territory this spring with “Spotlight on Wilmington University,” an open house event that invited residents of Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania to attend and learn more about the University and its offerings.

On Thursday, April 25, attendees and their guests mingled with University faculty, staff and area alumni, and enjoyed complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at the Joseph Ambler Inn in North Wales, Pa.

Administrators and representatives from the University's Alumni Relations, Career Services, Admissions, and Academic Advising departments, as well as its six academic colleges, were on hand to discuss the University’s programs and answer questions.

Dr. Jim Wilson, University Vice President, highlighted the use of “scholarly practitioners” – faculty who bring real-world experience from their own careers into the classroom – as a key function of WilmU’s success.

Brian Adair, WilmU alumnus and former police officer who recently took the role of president of the Alumni Association, said the University helped him get back on his feet after an on-the-job injury.

“When I was injured in the line of duty, I couldn’t work, but I knew I had to do something. I had a family to support,” Adair told the crowd of prospective students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff. “Wilmington University helped me figure out what was next for me. And I am so glad that I chose them.”
